Hello guys, I went over to my mothers yesterday to help her bring down some Christmas decorations, and found my fathers table grinder in the garage. It is a Black and Decker, with two wheels (one on each side), and they are about 5" wheels. I don't know anything about grinders, so I can't give you too many details. My father said I could have it, and I thought it might come in handy with my knives.

So Im asking: What can I do with a bench grinder?? What are these paper wheels I've read about? Are there any accessories I can use with the grinder?

Thanks in advance for any replies. Merry Christmas yall

If it has the guards still on it take them off and you can use it with small buffing weels.

You can use it for buffing.
Note: be carefull!! Buffers are considered the most dangerous machine in a shop by even the most experienced makers!!!

They can be used to help with profileing. You can even grind a blade with one if you take your time.
There are different grit wheels you can get.

I started with a grinder and a set of cardboard wheels that I had seen being used at Bass Pro. Without having a clue what I was doing nor any clue on the principles of sharpening, I still ended up with some damn sharp kitchen knives.
I have since progressed to a Sharpmaker and an Edge Pro but would still use the cardboard wheel if I wanted to reprofile a knife quikly.

If you purchase a set, make sure that they are the correct size for your grinder; 6", 8" 10"

Thanks for the replies.
Does anybody have any links to what would work for buffing?
I already have a bar of CrO compound, is that what I would use with the buffing wheel?
I'm guessing I just load the paper wheel with compound and have at it.
