What to do with a shiny new one.

I had my BWMLE #11 for sale for about a week and couldn't sell it. Lowest price I had on it was 650.
Now, I know that is a bit high, I just cant justify selling for any less than that. I do need some cash for something else I have been lusting after, so something else will have to be sold in its place.
I guess my problem is; should I use this baby or what? That first swing into the wood is going to be tough, and I'm not sure if I could do it, at least without having a couple of beers first.
Or should I just put it away in a safe place to be looked at every once and awhile.
I am sure that most of you reading this have faced this dilemma before and your advice is appreciated. :D:thumbup:

Just my opinion, but I would think it pretty difficult to flip a knife for profit when a person could get one factory direct. I have seen it happen, especially when a buyer is new to Busse. But you also see knives sit on the exchange for a long time in similar circumstances.

Something I do have a little more experience in: your first ANYTHING with a Busse is difficult. But once you've made that first purchase/chop/slice/stab, it gets easier. I buy my knives to use, and normally have to remind myself of that for a few days after getting a new Busse. But once I do take that leap, I'm glad I did.

Do you get any personal satisfaction from owning pristine Busses? I do. I can see no point in using it just to say "I used it" IF I have other similar blades that I already use (and I do.)

However, if you can't bring yourself to use it and you feel no need to just have it on hand, Then sell it! Don't get hung up on $650. With just a few dollars reduction in price, you will be at the current price on the Busse web site, plus shipping. You could price it accordingly, advertise this fact, and there will be someone out there who would buy it at the same money just to aviod the delay if procured from Busse. Life is too short to keep it for the sake of a few dollars when you don't really want to. This stuff is supposed to be fun!

Thanks for the comments guys.

I have been setting up the campfire area in the back yard since my initial post. I am definitely leaning towords using and abusing this thing later on.

The only reason I thought that I would get a few more dollars for it was because it was a low number LE. However, from what I have seen so far this doesnt seem like this is that important to most. I know that If I was looking for a safe queen to hold on to, a few extra dollars for a low number would be worth it.

Maybe right now the low serial numbers are'nt that sought after, unless by a serious collector. But its in the distant future that it'll bring more money being a lower serial number. I know it makes it harder to use being a lower serial number, but that's a call you have to make. Its a great knife mine is in the 700's so it makes it easier to use. But it handles very well not too heavy and not too light. So i say use it now and enjoy it, you'll be glad you did.

What was your original intention when you bought it? That's one thing you need to ask yourself. If you really want to get rid of it, you'd be better of waiting until they're no longer offered from the shop.

My original intention was to not use it and hold on to it / maybe sell it someday.

On one sholder I got an angel telling me to save and preserve it.

And on the other I got this weirdo guy telling me to "beat it" or whatever...

Sounds like you should stick to your original plan and hold out until the value goes up. In the mean time, you can still order another to beat on. :D

I would use it. Your probably not going to lose any money on a LE even after it's used.
That's a nice blade.... Enjoy it awhile.

Typically, buying for resale is an effective strategy only if you wait to sell until the model is no longer readily available from Busse. No matter how reliable a trader you are, buyers will typically prefer to deal direct with Busse if they can. The fact that you have a low number might counter this to some extent, but probably not enough to bring you a higher price than you paid. Even after Busse discontinues a design, it may be some time before the knife will bring a premium above its original price, depending on things like how long it was offered to the public and how popular the design was. That said, even in used condition, if you wait long enough there's a good chance its value will appreciate back to the price you paid for it or above. Even designs that were not particularly popular when offered by Busse have come back to be worth significantly more than their original price over time. And the BWM LE has proven to be a very well-received design.

Just use it, it doesn't have coating on it so it will look brand new when you are done using it. Maybe some scratches but c'mon as long as you are not chopping nails and keep it reasonable, the knife will perform awesome and will look new because INFI is tough, your knife isn't made of glass.

Id just sell it or keep it to sell for later. It doesnt sound like your really into using her to me

Thanks for you help boys. Good points.

I figure I could use it now and sell it down the road if I dont like it for not much of a loss.

But as of 15 min ago I have been using it and I love it!!

I am planning on taking pictures if my wife will ever get home with the camera.

The thing is, short of catastrophic stupid use, you really probably won't loos much money (if any) if you use for a few years, and then decide to move it. It won't sell for as much as that same model in pristine shape will.

Also, some one said that a satin would not show use as much as a coated. Actually, a satin will show use and scratches just as much.

Just don't drink before you use it. Liquor is for after the mistresses are sleeping or your new nickname may be "lefty".
