This new year I plan on cutting down my buying by collection higher tier knives, funky, but I think by getting a nicer knife and not buying one every month (say save up for 2 as my budget isnt changing) itll help slow that down along with not cluttering my already pack rat like living space. however I have a problem, what do I do with my old knives?

many of which ive "customized" with a dremel for something that better suits my needs. Is there a market for knives? I have a feeling there really isnt.

anyone else have this problem? I feel like this is where the transition from double digit collections turn triple

mine are un-tinkered with, but i have learned a valuable lesson on these boards. while most end up buying more to compete with massive collections. i learned from some of these wise fellows on here......"less is more." stop buying and sit down and do some whittling one gents said to someone else and that hit home for me. i stopped buying and started using more and more. even to the point where i go out and find new stuff to do. which is allot more fun than chasing down new knives via the internet shops. never been happier as far as my "collection" was concerned. when i get the urge to buy a new one, i go back to my lot and pull out one i haven't used in awhile and it fills that need nicely.

well I think the main reason for my (what I call a large collection) was to try different locks, blade shapes and edge profiles etc to see what worked for me on whatever job. and now that Ive narrowed it down a bit I really only prefer to use 5-8 of my collection the rest are used but I guess not as appreciated as they could be by someone else. possibly upgrade the designs I liked in a more cutlery directed steel, move from teh typical 8cr to s30v as standard in my collection as it were.

Only one way to find out... Post 'em up here on the Exchange, and see if there's any interest. Depending on what you've got, you'll probably get a few bites.

I can't count how many I've given away!

Any knife purchased for under $50, I'd give away. This would exclude a few "good" knives that are priced low and SAKs.

An alternative to this is to list the lower-priced knives in "lots" or groups on the exchange. Or, send them to me...I'll get rid of them for you.

:D

Why not do a giveaway? I'm sure there are some knife knuts out there who would love and appreciate even dremel-modified knives.

Sell them on the exchange
SOMEONE is gonna like it, offer some up for good prices, or offer up groups as lot sales. There are others out there who might be going through the same cycle you have. They might want to try out what you have deemed unnecessary or not in your taste

This never hurts either  Younger guys (a.k.a. me) don't always have as much disposable income as "grown-ups" who frequent the site.
Plus, sharing is caring :p

Exactly. When I get around to deciding what knife I want to give away, as well as how I want to give it away, I'm going to do one geared towards the younger crowd here.

i have kept mine previously, but i just recently posted then for trade. i would rather enjoy fully 2-4 folders and use them fully. than own 20 walmart knives or own 30 semi decent knives. price is no matter either, the best knife i have was one of the less costly ones. so do what you would like with your collection, try to trade or sell for something different that you enjoy/like more. or sell them and get a knife that you never bought before and try it out.

LOL OLD, im 19. and a giveaway sounds pretty good, possibly a holiday/new year contest should be in order. thanks for the ideas guys Ill probably divvy up the groups into lots for the exchange, see if I can get something towards a pm2 or 710 in m390. and I'll see what I can do for a give-away or two for the holidays.

thanks for the suggestions guys

Like everyone else says. I would first put a sale to see if you get any bites (the worst that can happen is someone says no).

If you don't get to many sales then you can do some give aways.

And then after all that you should keep some so you can give them to your children (if/when you have them)
