What to do with my Matin Knife?

I had a prvious thread looking for info on this knife and it's maker, and got some info. I now have the knife in hand, and I am wondering what to do with it. As you can see in the pictures it needs a little TLC. It was a Prototype that was handed out and tested on, so it's a little rough. Overall it seems mostly cosmetic, but the edge does need some help. I got the knife in a trade for a holster I wasn't using, so I feel like I got a good deal. I sent some pics to ED at Martin knives and he tolod me it was worth some dough!

What I would like to do I think is have someone rework the edge for me, because I am pretty new to sharpening, and I think this is beyond my skill level. A nice Convex edge I'm thinking! Also while I am at it I was hoping someone might be able to put a new finish on the blade as well.

Does anyone know of somebody that could do this type of work? Suggestions?

She is a stout blade. It's as thick as my 5, and has a 4" blade.
Brownish Micarta slabs, and I belive 1095HC steel.

I would be up to help you out with it. Convex the front no problem and clean up the serrations. What kind of finish were you wanting. Stay away from bead blast with the carbon steel. Could probably do a hand rubbed finish that would look nice and clean up the slabs. Would do it for free if you cover the shipping. I would say honestly you could do this all yourself with the time and about $20 in materials.

Well I started to use some Mothers polish on the blade. Started to think maybe a nice shiny blade might look good. As far as the edge goes, that is definetly out of my league. I just emailed Martin Knives to see what they think about it.

If nothing else I might take you up on the sharpening.

I'm sure Ed would clean it up for you. There are some great guys there and will take care of you. I bet they could get it looking like new for ya.

That would be cool. The big question....At what price!!

I had one of their Large Tejas folders that was a prototype of the new design of the Tejas folder. It had developed some vertical play, not a lot, but enough to me. I contacted them and they said they would build me a new one, of the new design with my specs. Didn't cost me anything but shipping, and I had to wait about 6 months, but they were great to deal with, and updated me with pics throughout the process. Next custom I buy, it will be a Martin, great service and a great product.

Well they sound like a great company. It's a little different in my case sinse I'm not the original owner. Hopefully something will work out. It's a tank of a knife.

I forgot to add I wasn't the original owner either, got the knife in a trade, and they were well aware of that.

Well I talked to Ed at Martin Knives, and I won't get as good as a deal as you did, but for 50.00 bucks he will finish the blade in, Satin, Subdued Satin, or blued. It was originally blued. He also remebered who had the knife, and said it did go through some pretty tough testing. I asked him some other questions on the knife, and asked for sort of a history of it, so when he replies I'll update.

It looks to be differentially tempered because it looks like it has a hamon. It might be 5160 instead of 1095?

Ed just got back to me. He said it is 1095 HC steel, Flat saber grind, and has a convex edge. It was made late 09, early 2010. The previous owner did say it was differentially treated, but Ed didn't say anything about that, so I'm not sure.

I Think so to, considering how cheap I got, it would be a shame not to do it up right. When said and done, Ill have a 260 + custom knife, for about a hundred bucks.

Got some pics back from Ed at Martin Knives, and should have it in hand soon.
