What to do with my old classic Sebenza

Greetings,

I need advice on what to do with this old Sebenza I have. I had my name engraved on it (against the advice of the dealer). He warned me not to do it in case I ever wanted to sell it.

Anyway, I want to sell it but figure the value is poor with the engraving.

Can someone tell me if the shop would sell me the one side of the frame? Any ideas of what it would cost?

I appreciate your help.
Dave

dave i was looking for a sebbie for everyday use, what are u looking to get for it?

If you're talking about the top side, yes. You can buy it from the shop and just slap it on, because there's no hand fitting involved. It's the lock side that presents problems.

From a purely fiscal standpoint though, you might want to just negotiate, as Post #2 suggests. :)

Another question that I forgot to ask is what price ranges are nice, classic (small) Sebenza's selling for? I need to know this to see if it's worth investing the new part and reconditioning the blade ($30).

Thank you,
Dave

...actually, now I see we're dealing with OD' again. He should be willing to fork over 1600 clams for this one. They're like candy bars, don't ya know. Lol.

In all seriousness, my guess is that you'd be better off seling it outright.

I agree--I think it would be better to sell outright. There are plenty of people looking for one at a bargain price.

I sold a small classic for $250 it was about 90%-95% condition. It did sell in one day, if you want to wait it out, start around $270. IMHO

What exactly did you have engraved? My name happens to be David (sadly I've never been called Big Dave) but perhaps your custom engraving isn't so custom? Any pics?

Hi Guys,

I have my full name engraved on it. It's on the lock side.

I don't want the moderator to scold me for starting a "for sale" thread so that's why I'm not responding directly to questions that could make it seem like I'm trying to sell it. I'm not trying to ignore anyone so please don't take it like that.

At any rate, I think So-Lo's suggestion of starting around $270 is good and see where it goes from there. Selling it is not a big priority. I'm just glad to know there's probably a market for it.

Have a nice week. Thanks for the help.
Dave

Update:

I want to post an update on how this ended.

Last night I posted it on the bay for $250 buy it now and it sold very quickly...within an hour.

I never tried selling it previouly since I thought the engraving pretty much killed the value. Thanks for the advice.

Dave

I read plenty and I saw the pictures also, did you?......actually I bought it and from the pictures, it looks like a regular, the card doesn't specify either classic nor regular and it is lacking the classic markings on the lockbar side. I don't know enough about CRK's to know if the small has the same markings as the large, THAT is why I ask.

I don't know you and you don't know me, so I will take your comment in jest and not as you being a smart ass. I hate to make people cry on their keyboards;):D

It was a question directed toward Dave.

Here is the image from the sale:

Sorry for the confusion. I assumed it was a classic based on the age. But, I don't know if it's a regular or classic. It's in the mail now to Jason. Hope you like it.
Thanks again.
