what to do with secondary pocket on sheath?

Hey guys. I recently bought an Ontario air force survival knife and as I'm sure you know the sheath it comes with has a pocket for a small whetstone. From what I can tell the whetstone is not going to be very useful when I'm carrying the knife hunting or camping and I have plenty of sharpening equipment. What would you guys suggest doing with the pocket? I have thought about either removing it or re purposing it. Any thoughts? Thanks!

If there is room, put a small field strop or stone in it. Never bad to always have a sharpener with you.

You actually could put in some DMT cards and a field strop in. Or a full serrated knife for when you need to cut a lot of fibrous material.

Yup. In mine I carry a mag/ferro starter and a bic. Alternatively, I have carried my SOG Powerlock MT.

Thanks for the ideas! I like the multi tool and fire starter idea. Unfortunately the pocket is way too small for any of the multi tools I have (I have the leather model and the pocket is very small). I'll probably go with some fire unless anyone has a better option. The stone that comes with it is very small and coarse so im not sure how beneficial it'll be

As I mentioned, there are small ferro fire steels out there but another idea might be a magnesium fire starter. Those are the kind you scrape flakes off of and then spark to ignite. I've seen small blocks that look like they would fit in that pocket.

That's what I was referring to in my first post, but I wrote it poorly. :o

Those can be found cheaply at Harbor Freight btw.

Depending on what you're looking for, search here at BF, Google and youtube for Altoid Tin Survival Kit. Obviously your secondary is smaller than the tin, but you'll find many items that will easily fit.

Leatherman Micra and flint/magnesium combo bars are pretty small as well... could probably fit both
