What to do with Super CQC-8

I've been carrying the same one for a bit over 5 years. There are several chips in the edge, one of which is pretty long.

It's about due for a tune-up and that zero edge thread got me thinking----it already needs more attention than I can give it so why not do something really radical?

I always say that I won't take my knives out and use them for every day stuff, but it always happens anyway. So going with a zero edge would really be nice from a cutting standpoint but it would probably assure that I resist temptation and never use it to cut a bundle of copper wire, open a box and hit one of those copper staples, etc.

I guess I'm wondering if I should just get the secondary edge redone, ditching the asymetrical edge for a traditional "V" or just get a radical regrind done with either a zero edge or hollow grind from the flats.

Anyone have some badass regrind pics to post to push me over the edge? No pun intended.

I say get the regrind. You have carried it for five years which means you like it so no reason to shove it in the junk drawer and forget about it. I am sure there are people on this forum that could do some great things to that knife.

I have a regular 8 and love it. I went from owning multiple folders from top name companies to selling them because the 8 is a great knife so that understand where you are coming from.

Depends on if a warranty (for the blade anyways) is important to you. If not, symmetrical V-grind or full flat grind would be great on a Super-8.

The CQC-8 is my favorite Emerson and the one model more than most that I wish did not have the one-side only edge grind.

As for a FFG and being (appropriately) reluctant to use for beater type tasks, you could always a Mini-7 or something else for those tasks.

In fact, folding box cutters with pocket clips have become ergonomic and are a useful part of any Knife Knut's daily load out.

Well its off to Razor Edge Knives for a zero edge!

I know it will be more fragile but it will be a nasty cutter. I will just start carrying a "beater" knife or box cutter too. Actually, I think I will resume using my leatherman.
