I picked this jersey up and couldn't see the crack before I bought it. What do you guys think is there anything I can do? Is there enough temper to reshape the bit? I got it for 6.50 so I'm not out a whole lot but jerseys are hard to find where I live, I usually find DB.

I have a blacksmith friend who's repaired several cracks for me; he usually grinds out the crack and then fills it in, as opposed to just putting the weld over the crack, if that makes sense. Seems to work well, and the logic behind it is sound, though I know very little about metalworking.
There's not a ton of temper left but it looks like there's enough that you could bring that wicked curved bit in a good deal, which might improve the balance too. For 6.50 you've not got much to lose by straightening it out even if you do take a few years off its usable life.
On a side note, I'd place my bets on it being an abused baltimore/kentucky pattern, with too much filing at the heel and toe of the blade. Plumb made all their lugs round, and rockaway's usually have a relatively short poll that I don't see there... That's just my opinion though :-)

If you have a friend that can weld, it can be fixed. Make sure to keep the bit cool, or plan to re-temper. If you can get the crack welded for cheap, it will be worth it. I hate to give up on a nice old axe head.

Good luck
Brent
