Those "other" knives... We all have friends and family members who are aware that we like knives and when trying to be nice around birthdays or the holidays give us those oh so special pakistani ccc pieces of cutlery you normally wouldn't be caught dead with.
Now I know ettiquite states you should gush "Oh you shouldn't have, thank you very much it's really very nice" and I do. I really do appreciate the gesture, it's awsome that they're willing to buy me cutlery, but once you get it home and behind closed doors you know you're not stickin it in the display case with the busse's or what ever customs you have. What do you do with the damn things? Anyone else have a drawer full of Fury rejects from friends and family members?

Get a second display case. Keep it in the attic until the day before those relatives come to visit, then dust it off and hang it up.

I also use these for practice with new sharpening devices. :D

I would put them in the display case next to my good knives (if I had a display case) because I'm a sentimental guy who cherishes the gifts I'm given, even if the gift is of crappy quality. Just the fact that someone was willing to try to help me with my hobby (best way I can think of to describe it now, I'm running on three hours of sleep here) means something to me. What I'm saying is, that if someone gifts me a knife, the value, to me, lies in the fact that it was a gift from someone who matters to me, rather than the quality of the knife itself.

That is also the reason that I will never, under any circumstances (well, ok, if someone chained me to a wall and threatened to kill someone innocent, it'd be different, but you get the point) get rid of the firearms that were passed down to me by my grandfather. Just ain't gonna happen, even if they're outlawed.

My daughter in law had an ex boyfriend who I couldn't stand. In trying to get in good with me, he gave me a knife he got a garage sale.

Pakistani "steel" fake survival knife with dull saw back and can opener notch in the blade, hollow plastic handle and a big bulbous compass exposed in the butt.

I was informed by my wife later that I did not act appreciative enough.

Hehe, I have that exact same knife. Has a green handle and a blade that's just over 5", right? Also, the compass sounds like nails on a chalkboard when you unscrew it, and it comes with a a soft plastic camoflauged sheath with a pouch for a sharpening stone. The "teeth" are completely useless as well.

What, people get knives as gifts? The only people that give me knives as gifts are other knife nuts lol. Looks like I need some new family.... rofl

I think what really sucks is that people will give away crappy knives when they could give away CHEAP knives that aren't so bad. I'll take an Opinel, Mora, Byrd, etc etc any day over the CCC stuff out there.

I'm with Ben on this though. Once in awhile I'll meet someone who has a vague interest in knives and I have a few crap knives that I keep and let newbies practice sharpening on.

You could of course just keep em in a box and when the gifters come over just throw a few into the display case. Or frame a few with the gifters name on the back and hang em up when they come over lol.

Yeah I have a few "gift" knives that lay in a drawer. The thought is nice just not the quality.

What?
No pictures?
We've all got'em :D

Leave them in the boxes and get the gift giver on the AG Russell mailing list as fast as possible...lol...

yes i have a few of these as well. for me it all depends who gave me the knife. if it is from my wife or my father then it is highly sentimental to me no matter what the brand and i will cherrish it. if it is from a friend or distant famly member, well i have a 13yr son who loves knives and has his own collection started so i give them to him.,,VWB.

Of course! The guy who has the first knife I ever made gave me a cheap "fancy" dagger, and I love it! It came from the wall of China and he picked it out especially thinking of me, knowing how cheap it was but that it would still mean something. I display them proudly, just away from the "good" knives.
