Caught this on on a whim because I like the square shoulder bolsters. Noticed the slight divet in the blade. Did not catch in posting photos the top was slightly rounded. Upon receipt inspection there is some side-to-side play.
I have read that during a spa treatment the bolsters can get a little rounding, not what I want. I believe with a light tap of a flat head hammer the side play will go away. I will lose some metal getting the blade divet out. That spot also concerns me as a weak spot but I do not use knives as screw drivers or pry bars so not sure about it.
Having the blade replaced does away with authenticity of the knife.
What would you do?IMG_20241121_154024143.jpgIMG_20241121_154017787.jpgIMG_20241121_154010824.jpg

It looks like someone cut a live wire. If only a knife could tell its story.

You'd have to remove a lot of blade to completely get rid of that divot. There are no great options if you want to keep the original blade. Either remove enough steel to get rid of the divot, or live with it and use the edge on either side to cut with.

How old is the knife? If it is 440c , I wouldn't change the blade. Modoc Ed has a well used 112 posted today. It's still going strong.
The best I can tell, early 70's to mid 80's. Bolster shoulders are square so it is not new. I am familiar with Ed's rescued ranger.

How is the blade marked? That will give good time line. Your time estimate also says 440c. The chip could also be considered a small serration😁
A little flitz and your good to go.

I have to check to form and see if a spa is required with blade replacement or if I can get just the blade replaced
If we only replace the blade the front bolster will not look good. We hand pin the front pivot pin which leaves peen marks on the bolster and sanding lines from sealing that rivet. You can call out that you would like the knife to remain as original as possible and we will do our best. We do not round off the bolsters on the older ones to keep them square.

Thanks.
It will be a user for sure.
Probably going to sharpen and leave as is.
Should the blade break at arc mark, then I would replace blade only.

I appreciate everyone's thoughts and input
