What to expect at Knob Creek?

So I have always wanted to go to this mythical event. I have been a gunaholic for a long time, and recently started a busse affair. So I asked for the time off and I am going. My question is what is the format? What am I to expect? the plan is to go down Friday and get a campsite, and stay till Sunday.

Is this a gun and knife show similar to the Indy 1500 next to a gun Range?
Does the campground get to full to fast, or is there a better option?
Will Busse have knives for sale?
Will my wife and daughter have fun, or better to go at it alone?

Just looking for some guidance from some of you vetereans of Knob Creek???

Yes, Busse will have a table at the Show. But for many people the real Busse action has moved to the pre-sale AKA the trunk show at Golden Manor Motel on Thursday evening. That is why you will read speculation about who will be in line first to have the best chance at raiding the tables. Garth or Lexi will soon be announcing exactly how that will be run.

I have only attended the Trunk show events, never the Machine Gun Shoot and Show. But reading about them over the years, I can tell you to be ready for mud. At least twice the spring rains have been so bad the Show was flooded and canceled. When it wasn't bad enough to cancel, there have been Shows that were so muddy people needed their vehicles to be towed out of the parking area. I think KC staff has helped with that.

OTOH, the night machine gun shoot is supposed to be simply amazing, something that I would like to see one of these years.

Expect drinking, opinionated conversations, loud noises, and lots of flying metal objects

As for the actual machine gun shoot, it's the way a gun show should be. You have the range where all the shooting is, then basically a gun show right next to it. It's cool when you can look at guns and knives, and feel the concussion of the 50 cal at the same time. Lower range you can rent guns to shoot, prices depends a lot on caliber and how rare the gun is on the registery.

Overall, pretty family friendly. But you do have to drive past a couple real classy strip joints that are always hiring, and an adult book store with private booths.

Jerry's liquor store is kind of a crap hole, but you just have to look at it, nothing more

Sounds like a good time.

So does everyone stay at the campground?

Nope, cause they don't allow alcohol on the grounds :(

Mauldraugh, Radcliff, some other places close by. But most people try and stay at the Manor in Mauldraugh

It really varies from show to show what will be on the table. It's always worth going, there are knives, great people and memories to be made. You really can't go wrong.

I am sure Garth knows what will be there..... :D

I've got five Octobers under my belt

There will be knives.

It will be loud.

It is a great time. I have made lots of friends at the show. Truly something that has to be seen.

Last time I went it was so crowded I could barely walk around the gun show portion and the getting directly behind the range was near impossible without bumping more than a few elbows. It really was cool to see them light up the range (day and night). The night show was the best part. Nothing quite like tracers and explosions lighting up the night....

Almost forgot....Expect the cave trolls to come out in full force...The event brings out all kinds of people...Some of which you will wish stayed at home...However, 99% of the people I met were friendly and presentable...

Just to add to my previous comment, if you like beef jerky there are two vendors who have brought the chewy stuff to an art form.

As to knives, my tradition has been to always come home with a few new Piranha autos. This October I plan to do the same along with some major buying at the Busse table.

It's always fun to listen to the GE Mini guns. The cyclic rates and the length of the bursts tell lots about the state of the economy. Wish I was going to be there this month.

As an exhibitor who is there between Thursday and Sunday I can say that it is the best people watching on the planet.
