What to get big brother for Christmas? Please help me decide!

I have a dilemna of sorts...I can't decide between a SOG Seal 2000 or a Leatherman Juice for a Christmas present to my brother. He was a Huey/Blackhawk/Apache pilot for the army for 13 years, then a member of the SWAT team on the Hollandale police department (FL) for 3 years (where he also taught fellow officers weapons concealment), and is now teaching Search and Rescue planning for the government (as a civilian).

He had a SOG Seal knife in Desert Storm, but lost it. He wore it on his leg all the time while in the desert. A lieutenant asked him to remove it once and he refused. He didn't care of the Saudis were offended by it, he trusted NO ONE. I thought it would be a good gift for him, and then I read about Leatherman's Juice series of multi-tools. I know he had a Leatherman a few years ago, but don't know if he still has/uses it. Given his current line of work, which would make the more practical/usable gift? Help me out here, please! Thanks so much, Amy

Amy,

the Leatherman would probably be used more often daily. But, the SOG I bet would MEAN a whole lot more to your bro. If I wore such a knife in the Storm and lost it and my sister bought me a new one, I'd be very happy. Either gift would show you care, but I think that the SOG would hold more sentimental value.

Nothing worse than a lost knife...you miss it forever.
Go for the SOG Seal 2000.
Cheers,
Gord.

No doubt about it...Buy him the SOG Seal 2000 knife!

first off,are you married? ;)

seriously, i would go for the seal 200.
sog is a great company, run by a good bunch of fellas, and makes pretty damn good products...not to mention the sentemental value or getting the same knife he carried through combat from his sister.

whatever you chose,i hope he enjoys it.

I'd go with the SOG seal 2000. He would almost definitely use the leatherman more at his job, BUT I think the seal 2000 would be the better gift. Since it was a trusted companion during Desert Storm, he would probably be very happy to get "re-aquainted" with another one. It might bring back some great memories.

*one word of advice though - if he was traumatized by his experiences during his tour (a lot of bad memories), you might want to get the Leatherman instead. War tends to affect all men differently.

SOG makes a great product and they stand behind it. If he looks back on that time in his life fondly, you can't go wrong!

...Get him a seal 200...

BTW, that was the prototype for the SOG SEAL 2000...right Mo?

You can never go wrong with a SOG. Well, maybe you could, but it would be very rare.......:p

Thanks for your suggestions guys. I really appreciate it! And to answer Maurice's question, no I'm not married, but I am happily involved in a great relationship with a fellow knife knut! But thanks for asking! :)
Amy

..."Good for you"...right Mo? ;)

So, I've just gotta ask...Shot down in real life, shot down in the forums....what's next, "Chat?"

Now, back to the kitchen with you Lobsterboy...lol :D

p.s. GOY (Good on ya) Amy! And a fellow knife nut? Even better! :)
