Hey Gents, Having recently grabbing a XM-18 3" I've become addicted :p.

Having said that, I have the opportunity to get another one as an early B-Day Gift, but not sure which ... either another 3" or a 3.5"???

I'm a LEO and plan on EDCing it while On-Duty. Looking for what you gents would suggest. Pros, Cons, etc ... If you gents can be so kind as to give me your insight to your thoughts that would be GREAT . Thanks In Advance, Take Good Care, and Be Safe Always.

since you already have a 3", may as well get the 3.5". a little extra blade length won't ever hurt, and with gloves the 3.5 will be easier to handle.

i carried my 3.5 for a bit on duty, but switched to a sebenza at the beginning of this year. it's slimmer and carries better with the same blade length, but im sure ill switch back at some point.

MORIMOTOM - did you use flipper or thumbstud?

My son is getting one from the upcoming batch from what I've been told. He's a combat grunt and carries a rifle so the knife will only be used for box cutting and sometimes they have to cut stuff up to check for contraband.

He won't have to use it for hand to hand or anything like that. He also wears some fairly heavy duty gloves on patrol.

We were talking to Mr. Orlando about the 3.5 flipper model.

Also why the Sebenza for LEO they deploy so slowly - unless your usage is strictly seat belt cutting and other routine knife work?

Anyone that's an LEO or combat deployed please?

Thanks :)

Honestly, I think it's more a matter of preference and what's comfortable to carry while on-duty ;).

mine is a flipper. at least on mine, the detent is "overactive" and opening with the thumbstud is painfully difficult.

as far as the sebenza being slow, mine certainly is not.

for weapon retention i carry a combat kerambit support side.

I wouldn't agonize about your choice. I think he'll love the flipper and it may be easier to open with a gloved hand.
I've had both and I currently prefer my Gen II 3 1/2" non-flipper. It's about the fastest opening knife I've ever owned.
If he's not totally happy with the flipper you can sell it in a flash (to me ;)) and get the non-flipper.
