What to get. New Tinker or a Compact?

So I realized that I again want a think SAK. I also realized that apparently I gave away my last Tinker so I was thinking of getting a new one because for some reason, I've needed the Phillips driver a lot this past week. However, I also have the option of getting a Compact. I know how useful that one is, but I always carry a Classic so those scissors might not be that big of an advantage. It would have been an automatic buy for me if the Compact had Phillips instead of the corkscrew (make no mistake about it, I think the eyeglass screwdriver is pretty smart, I just haven't had the use for it or the corkscrew... no wine to open or knots to untie).

So there's my simple dilemma. I'm all but sold on getting a Tinker again. Sometimes you just realize how much more useful a knife is after you've given it away.

But chime in.... what do you guys think? :)

If you always carry a classic, then you have scissors. I keep my classic on my keyring, so I actually can't leave home without it.

The tinker is one of the most popular SAK's for a reason. It has an almost perfect balance of tools vs bulk. A classic and a tinker is a great combo to carry! It will handle anything the Compact will handle, plus a few things. Still just a two layer.

The Compact is a great EDC-SAK. I like mine very much. I even bought my Better Half one. She now carries it beside her Fenix E01 in her bag. The combination of scissors, blade, caplifter/screwdriver is very useful. The little pen next to toothpick and tweezer is another gadget, that should not be forgotten. The little pen really writes! To this little two-layer knife it has a lot of tools. The only thing I miss on the Compact is a secondary blade.

If you dont mind a layer thicker, get a super tinker... its a tinker with scissor..

as carl said, a tinker and classic would be perfect...

I like the Small Tinker. Just a little smaller, but still gets the jobs done.

I have had my Super Tinker for a few years now, one of my most go to EDC, found so many uses with the hook.

Ended up buying the Tinker Small (84mm)! It rarely shows up in out local store so I bought it up immediately. :)

Thanks for the advice guys!

My black compact just arrived this evening! I like it, a lot. Ran it over the Sharpmaker quick just to put that extra edge on it. This will be a EDC for sure. Well, join my lineup of EDCs :D

I'm really impressed with the Tinker Small. :) Awesome capabilities in a neat little package.

I really can't understand why Victorinox would stop most of their 84mm production lines. :(

I agree with you 100%. I also don't understand why they stop offering 84mm models with scissors.

I've several SAKs; an older model Champ, a standard and a 2 year old Mechanic which is now my EDC. I was wondering if Victorinox makes the Mechanic in Alox or if they make one similar with a non-serrated one hand opener with locking blade?
Thanks for any info (and where to get them).
