What to get next?

Ok. Guys I just received my ratmandu recently and I love it. I thought my GSO 5.1 is a better knife in terms of design and function but I was wrong. It handles better in the hand and although it isn't as sharp, I didn't have a problem putting a hair popping sharpness using my sharpmaker. Yes a sharpmaker! I started with a medium grit all the way to the ultra fine and some black, white and green strop from stropman.

Anyway, I'm planning to purchase one soon. I'm debating between the rodent 6 and ratweiler CG. I know it's not out yet. That being said, which one of these bad boys should I get?

I would say custom r6 with a drop point but that's so similar to the RMD it would defeat the purpose. I would suggest a custom drop point r7 or Ratweiler CG IF it ever comes out.

R6 is RMD on steroids (plus the top guard), the difference isn't really that big between them.
I'd wait for Ratweiler CG, they should be getting released in 'two weeks'... ;)

Here is my CS drop point R6 and RMD for size comparison:

RMD may very well be one of the very best designs for a knife that size ever.

I'm not anti Survive. A friend has a 4 and 10. He's all about them. Blade geometry seems excellent. Overall ergos are not nearly as on par with others like the RMD. My opinion. I cant see where 3V is the mighty INFI slayer that everyone says it is I might add.

Nice comparison picture. How long did you wait for the custom R6?

It can take a good while. I have an order in for a custom shop r4 placed on 2/17, so if you go custom, be prepared for the wait. Upside is you get what YOU want. :)

HC, just like HK said, it is quite a bit of a wait, mine was about 4,5 months, but it was the first one... Since then they would have gotten used to putting drop points on R6 & RMDs so it might be a bit faster now... ;) :D

How about the coatings? My rmd has a black coating and it's pretty thick and durable. Will a tanker grey or muddy brown be the the same as far as thickness and durability?

KC, there has been some discussion on durability of differen colours of coating. I think it was agreed that black was the 'toughest', but I don't remember which one came next.
To me, personally it doesn't make any difference, I pick the colors on a whim most of the time...

To me Tanker Grey holds up the best not because its thick but because its a bit smoother so it doesn't wear as fast imo. I would also put Sage right up there with Tanker and black to follow those two.
