I've been carrying a Remington 3 blade pocket knife for several years now and been contemplating getting a new one, a nice one an am once again asking your opinions.

Would like high quality one to two blade, thin profile, no plastic handles.

Will be used for light duty from slicing fruits to opening mail ect.

Please include name and manufacturer so I can look up pictures. Want to stay in the $100.00 price range if possible no may extend that a little?!?!?! May even consider used.

Thanks on advance! Dave

The Benchmade 720 or 740 would do nicely.IMO

My everday carry is currently a small Spyderco Centofante. It has textured black G10 scales (not plastic, but not a natural material either). Blade length is 2 7/8 inches. This is a really nice slim folder. It opens very easily. It is a standard liner-lock (one hand opening and closing), and has a back-up secure-lock which places a bolt into a hole in the blade tang, making the lock just about unbeatable. Nice little knife. If you are looking for a more traditional sort of knife, have a look at the selections at www.agrussell.com

Just found a titanium/ceramic Boker "Gents" 4-sale for $100.00. Whats general opinion of this knife? Dave

Case makes many different patterns in lots of nice handle materials. Classic knives like Grampa would carry. Want a bright green handle? They make 'em. Dark green? Yep. Bright red? Dark red? Purple? Blue? White? Pick a color. They probably make a "whatever-color-you-want bone" handle.

Then again, there's also the Spyderco Mini Dyad. I just went to the web page; I'm confused. All of the sudden it's the Dyad Jr.? Whatever. It says the handle is made of micarta, which is what I thought, but I'm almost CERTAIN that the knife in that picture has a Zytel handle. Am I wrong? It's not plastic (like swiss army knife handle plastic) in either case. You'll hear very few complaints about Spyderco for 2 reasons that I can think of:
1) They make something that can suit just about anyone's needs. Everyone is able to choose the knife that bes fits what they're looking for; they just don't buy the one they don't want. (In fact, my problem is that there is no consistency... I don't get it.)
2) They make good stuff. That simple.

Oh, and the nice thing about that Spyderco Mini Dyad is that both blades LOCK. Really good idea. In fact, I'd say it's probably one of the most practical 2-blade knives I've ever seen. If you aren't looking for a classy-ish knife, that would be my #1 recommendation. If you are looking for something a little more executive, go with Case.

I would also like to recommend the Spyderco Dyad-Jr. It fits in the small jeans coin pocket, has plain and serrated blades, Zytel handles, ATS-55 steel, and is very light.

I like that the plain blade has a sharp point and the serrated blade is a sheepsfoot so, for example, cutting around a seagull caught in fishing line can be done safely. Basically, it is much more practical as a utility knife than a single blade (unless you prefer carrying two knives around). This knife is now my everyday carry.

I'm suprised nobody has suggested the following benchmades:

BM850 - titanium & micarta handles, 2.6 oz
BM330 - titanium & G10, 1.3 oz
BM855 - g10, 2.24 oz
BM856 - aluminum, 2.24 oz

I agree with the Dyad Jr also. I don't own one (yet!) but I have checked it out and I like it alot. Another possible might be a Victorinox Soldier SAK (very handy).
BTW, about what blade-length are you looking for?

Another vote for Dyad Jr. Mine is micarta version, simply beautiful. Take off the clip, and it sits comfortably in your pocket, fits perfectly small right pocket too.

Case or Hen&Rooster. Beautiful, functional, durable, classic, You can't go wrong with a whitller from either company. Boker is also a strong contender.

A Case Russlock or a Mini-Copperlock would seem to be suitable for your needs, with good looks to boot. Although im am not at all impressed with Boker tac-type knives, their traditional patterns are still good knives also.

The one's with colored handles seem to be more PC.

I suggest that you check out Queen Cutlery Company's knives, especially their Queen Winterbottom bone, Robeson, and Schatt & Morgan lines. ATS-34 steel (in their master blades, at any rate), pretty handle materials, and the best fit and finish to be found anywhere in a factory folder, in my opinion. I am sure that you will find a Queen pattern that will suit. Queen knives are featured by A.G. Russell at www.agrussell.com.

Stick with good ol' steel for toughness and ease of sharpening.

Oooops...

Forgot to mention my favorite light user: Spyderco Calypso Jr. in black micarta (not Zytel!)

While you are at A.G. Russell look at their own 'American Muskrat' ATS-34 blades, wharncliff and clip and the stag handle is nice (the other versions are pretty nice too)

I don't know about the larger titanium ceramic, but I made the mistake of buying the Boker Gamma. It has two problems - the blade is extremely brittle. It'll do a great job on meat, but I cut one of those plastic ¼" packing strips - chipped the blade. The second problem - no means of retaining the blade when closed. After repeatedly poking the extremely sharp point into the ends of my fingers when retrieving it from my pocket, I put it up and haven't handled it since.
