I'm looking to either get a nice sharpening stone/system or knife different from the ones I carry regularly... right now i switch off between my sog trident tanto, bench mini grip, spyderco native, and kabar mini tdi. Looking at things under $110, open to advice

Get both! Spyderco Sharpmaker ($50) and a $60 or below knife (or 2). Maybe a Benchmade Vex ($40) or Spyderco Tenacious ($30) a small SAK on top of it.

Very tempting, but I will never get a red class benchmade, i loath chinese made knives

I also won't buy a Chinese made knife, and the Vex is made in China.
BUT...not all Benchmade Red Class knives are made there.
In fact, for example, the Benchmade Rant (Red Class) is made in the USA.

If you don't have a good sharpening system, the Sharpmaker is a really good investment.

Thing about kershaw, i have a blackout and broke the tip off pretty easily and i decided to give my scallion a break from edc and it loosened up and now the assist doesnt work... i need to find the right tool to tighten it but i have emailed kershaw a couple of times and they haven't gotten back to me, and it has been weeks

+1 on the Sharpmaker. There goes ~$50.

That leaves about $6o to spend on a new blade. Lots of choices for that!
You already have a Native and Minigrip. That leaves Buck and Kershaw that you really ought to try before you try more.
Do you have a 110 yet? Or what about a Kershaw Blur?

I've found alot of mini rukus's on the web for a little more than your price but man what a kick ass knife

I have a buck prince which i carry occasionally and i've looked at the blur before, im kind of eyeing the kershaw centofante also... im looking for a blade that is 2.95 to 3.5 inches

+ 1 on the sharpmaker

buck 110
kershaw ram
spyderco delica or endura
sak trekker

Seems like the advice is leaning towards the sharpmaker for sure, a rukus or a kershaw... im a little leary of kershaw but willing to look into those models

The Spyderco Sharpmaker is an excellent basis for building knowledge in the sometimes complex and confusing realm of knife sharpening.

With the purchase of a 501 Sharpmaker, you'll still have enough money left to buy one of Spyderco's staples---a Delica 4, Endura 4, or one of the excellent Centofantes (I recommend the 4, with its wharncliffe-style blade). Great locks, excellent Seki City VG10...picture perfect economical EDCs.

Im pretty sure my Rant has Taiwan on the blade... I could be wrong though.

Im in the same boat, got fifty bucks burning a hole in my pocket. lol. I have a sharpmaker though. the RAM might be worth looking into though. :)

Right, the Rant was made in Taiwan until about a year ago.
Then Benchmade began making them here.

Man, there sure are a lot of nice knives in that range.

Happy shopping! :)

AH! I see.

Yeah. I kinda been off and on with the RAM. Its either that or a new FB and for fifty bucks the Ka Bar Heavy Bowie is looking mighty fine. Any other suggestions? I have most of the staple Spyderco and Kershaw offerings in that range.

If you do not have it yet - get DMT D8XX - silent compact table table grinder.

Thanks, Vassili.
