What to get?

OK guys I have a dilemma. I want to get my little brother a folder, one that he can carry around and use. Problem is, he's not a knifenut. He's not a sheeple by any means, he just isn't have the habit of using them like the we do. I'm thinking of getting him an Microtech LCC, but I don't know if he would take care of it all that well. I think that I would go nuts if I bought him such a nice knife only to see him abusing it. Should I get him an LCC, or should I start him out with something simple, say a Spyderco Endura? Thanks for the help.

CRKT Mirage from SMKW. Low profile, high quality, great price. A good "gateway" piece. If he likes it, it's a great start and he couuld be hooked. If he just puts it in a drawer, you've only lost $10.

I think the Mirage is a good suggestion. You could go for a knife with nicer steel but remember, tougher steel is harder to sharpen. Whatever you get, spend $50 or less.
A Non-Knife nut probably has no conception of a $100+ knife and would treat like a Wal-Mart special.

Start him off on the low end. Start off with a Spyderco Delica of a CRKT L.U.S. and when he begins to appreciate it, upgrade him to a higher end knife. By then, he'll be a knife nut.

i just got a m-14 (colt m16 clone) from bladeauction.com and i like it a lot. It was only $18 shipped, and there are a lot available still, so u wont have to worry about the price going up any.

I think the best bet out right now is on the "For Sale Dealer" forums. Bayou Lafourche is offering Benchmade knives at unreal prices. I got a model 800 AFCK for $65 after shipping. That's the way to go. A no nonsense knife at an incredable price. They also have the mini ones at something like $55. Go there and check it out.

Roger posted a thread in that forum, lowering the prices below those shown on the Bayou LaFourche. Am fairly sure he's sold all the AFCKs. Hope I'm wrong, but don't count on finding any there.

I'd first go along with the SMKW Mirage suggestion. I second the LUS or Delica/Endura suggestions.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll probably get him a plain edged Endura. He lives in an area where he can carry it and although it's only an inch longer than the Delica, I'm of the opinion that bigger is better. It's also great quality and has a low price. That way I can introduce him to the wonderful world of cutlery and won't have a heart attack when he inevitably mars it with his inexperienced sharpening.
