I have been looking at getting a becker to add to my collection and i already have the 11 but i want something a little bigger just for all around use when camping hunting maybe some fishing (not that i use my knife too much for that) and just general use. i was looking at getting either the bk2 bk7 or bk9 what would you guys suggest i get and should i invest in the micarta handles

If you are looking for just a LITTLE bit bigger, I'd say try out the tweeners. Personally I prefer the 17, but Ethan says the 16 is the one he has been waiting for 40 years for.

My preferred knife for butchering and slaughtering is the BK-5. The BK-15 is a smaller more nimble version which IMO might be the perfect knife for more detailed work and especially for cleaning fish.

A little bigger for hunting and fishing id go with either the 15 or 17. you want a big camp knife then the bk5 which can't be beat in the camp

I really enjoy my BK-2 with micarta.
The micarta is a bit expensive, but it feels fantastic.
I used it alot on my last camp trip.
It's the best selling knife in the Becker lineup for a reason.
Can't go wrong with the BK-2 in my opinion.

And how's this for an action shot? That's the BK-2 on my hip while settin the hhok on a Barbie pole.
That's right...a Barbie pole.

Now while the BK-2 may not be the best "fishing" knife, it's still my go to "all arounder", and I couldn't imagine camping without it.

For camping and hunting I would recommend a BK16 or 17, whichever you like best, and a hatchet.

ok i have narrowed it down to the 2 or 16 being very similar and a nice hatchet or tomahawk for the chopping how is the handle on the 16? how easy would it be to make some g-10 or micarta handles for it?

If you're set on getting a hatchet or hawk, then go with the 16. I just picked up one myself and it seems like a very versatile blade. I have large hands and the handles are comfortable to me. I think I may want them to be a little thicker, but if you look back in previous posts, you'll see that this is easily fixed with some liners.

I would pick one of the tweeners over the 2 if you don't use it much. No reason to haul all that weight around if you don't need it. Much rather have a 16 or 17, 15 if I were fishing.

skystorm do you have a leather sheath available for the 16? i saw some picture of your work and its just awesome.

Lot of good ideas posted ,I am going to go a different way and suggest the 16. I think it will work well for what you want.

the bk2, you cant go wrong. but the 15 or one of the tweeners would probaly be better like the others suggested.
