Hi,

There has been some discussion about what stuff is best to buy for someone about to be deployed to a war zone. I would like to hear the thoughts of recent veterans on the effectiveness of tools designed for the warfighter. The list below is just a starter. I just did a quick look around /the Bay.

So guys—what do you think?

Many units will issue multitools. Also part of PEO-Soldier's Rapid Fielding Inintiative's equipment list. I'd verify the deployer isn't being issued a multitool before buying him a multitool.

How about a good OHO lock blade knife? Too many brands and styles to recommend just one.

I can just speak of one of those, the MP600. Had or currently have most models. I have SOGs, LMs, Victorinox...

A beast, truly capable, reliable and tough as nails. Like most Gerber Multitools

Works every time, dirt and dust will not impede its function, good warranty, nice implaments, basic toolset, many MP600 models and variations to choose depending on your needs

I still have my Gerber multitool that was issued. My daughter is currently carrying one on her gear. Tough and they last. One thing that I got her thats a handy little AR specific cleaning tool. Other than that a good folder is always handy. Then extra gloves, baby wipes, comfort stuff. I usually send care boxes of stuff monthly during deployments of friends and family.
