I'm having a hard time making a decision on my next EDC. I love the Axis Lock knives, I have a Mini Grip, and am currently leaning toward the Sequel, the RSK Mini is also a possibility but...

I think that I would like to keep it to either a Benchmade or Spyderco around the $100 range. Ideally it should be no more than 4" closed, tip up carry, a nice lock that can be done 1 handed and a steel comparable to VG 10 or M2 and a plain blade. I'm a little gun shy of S30V as there have been some reports of chipping . I think that I have looked at every Benchmade model at least 3 times and have attempted to look at the Spyderco offerings but that is a daunting task, also the info re. the locks on Spyderco's is somewhat sketchy.

Help!!!!!

Dont worry about S30V- if it chipped during normal use, that would be covered by customer service- Also, I have never heard anything negative about Spyderco Locks.- I have no trouble opening & closing my Endura with one hand.

I'm in the same spot. I've decided to get:

***Both the Spyderco Native III AND Centofante III

OR

***Spyderco Manix

For around $80, that's a LOT of value.

The Centofante III looks like a very nice knife but I don't know about the back-lock. How easy is it to close 1 handed? The Mannix is too big for what I want, right now ;)

You know, I was a little timid about the lockback, too. Bottom line is, they're totally solid, very strong.

One-handed closing really isn't an issue. I think the other trade-offs with the ergos are well worth it. It wasn't until a couple weeks ago that I re-discovered Spydercos. What value! These new designs are pretty sweet. I picked up a Salt 1 last week. Very satisfied thus far.

Even if you don't care for the appearance of these knives, your hand will thank you.

If I had to I wouldn't buy another Centofante III. Nice knife I suppose but I don't like the thin blade or the recess the pivot screw sits in, makes it look crappy. Also I've heard a lot about the metal spider popping out of the handle. It's wicked sharp though, so I dunno. I just wouldn't buy another.
