I live in a subdivision south of houston and these trees line some off the roads. They are loaded with some sort of fruit, but I do not know what it is...

The tree itself...

The bark...

A clump of leaves...

An individual leaf. I wear med-large gloves...

The fruit on the tree...

The fruits are about 1" to 1.5" in diameter and the fruit that has fallen from the tree has <approximately> the color of ripe blueberries.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Prunus mexicana aka Mexican plum. Native plum tree found from Texas to Missouri and east long the coastal states. They have a tart flavor and make absolutely WONDERFUL jelly. They prefer acidic soil, and the fruit grows bigger in better (acidic) soil / adequate water conditions. Average size is about like a quarter. In central Texas, they're usually smaller, just barely larger than a nickle.
