What type of blade is that on the Al Mar Nomad?

I'm considering buying an Al Mar Nomad as an EDC because I like the overall design. The blade and handle seem to go together really well. However, I haven't gotten a chance to see one in person and wanted to hear from owners. The blade has a distinctive look and I was wondering if it's just gratuitous styling or has a purpose to it. I've heard a lot of talk about Al Mar's SERE knives, as well as the hawks, eagles, and other birds, but little on this one. Any problems with it I should know about before buying?

Also, for some reason different sites list different weights for the knife. Some say it's 3.5 oz., some say 4.8. I'm assuming the ones that list 4.8 are giving the total shipping weight but wanted to make sure as that would be too heavy if it is the knife's weight.

I've owned an Al Mar Nomad since December. I'm not sure of the weight, but it isn't very heavy. It's much lighter than my Buck 112 Ranger which is roughly the same size. I think it's a great design; very ergonomic and comfortable as well as stylish. I'm surprised it isn't more popular. Mine has a black blade which was very hard to find.

Thanks for the feedback--I probably will grab one of these, they've definitely got style. I noticed that the black blades are rare on these, but I actually like the contrast between the black G10 scales and the satin blade. The S.E.R.E.s look awesome in all black though :D

Just ordered my Nomad. My second knife--it'll be joining my Benchmade 940 in my beginning knife collection, which started from reading this forum too much. :D
