What type of filter needed

It has been recommended that a good resirator for grinding would be the 3M 7500 series.

So I have looked on Ebay to try and find prices.

This is the mask I am looking at a 3M 7500 Series Reusable Half-Face Respirators

But then the site offers a variety of filters. I think what I need for steel dust is a particulate filter. However they offer several of them.

Which on this list is what I need for filtering out steel dust created by grinding?

Also how long do these filters last, and how do you know when your filter needs changing?

Anyone who uses the 7500 series that can shed some light on the subject it would be greatly appreciated.
 
You can use the 2091 series filter for steel dust. That's what I use. How long does it last? Well I do not know the exact timeframe in hours of use but I change mine after the air tastes funny while wearing it (and yes I do wash out the respirator body on a regular basis so that's not what smells). Maybe that's an indicator I use mine too long before changing.

but you want at least a P100 rated filter.

and you will love the 7500 half face. I love mine especially cause the exhaust breath is pointed down, it does not fog up my faceshield.
 
Don't buy your filters from that website. A 4 pack of the 2091's lists for $24.95 plus s&h. The same 4 pack is only $18 or $19 at home depot.

What department at Home Depot are the filters in? Painting or some other area? I like the fact that I can purchase replacement filters locally should I need replacements on short notice.

I am pretty sure I saw them in with the silicone/glues/paint stuff section. HD has respirators there and also in another section.

Do they also stock the half masks? I almost ordered one from MSC, but wasn't sure what size I'd need.

They sell half masks for around $30 but not the 7500 series silicone half mask. Now I remember that the other selection of respirators was in with the hand tools at the one I go to. They have 3M and another brand.

Now don't get me wrong I like MSC, but sometimes they tend to be high and this is one of those cases! Don't order from MSC as there price is reflected here

plus the cartridge they are showing with the mask is not what you need according to Wloch248 and below is what Keith Johnson recomended in his link.

Even with the 3M R-2091 Particulate Filter P100, 4-Pack it is cheaper than the MSC mask!

The link didn't work for me and most filters 3m makes will fit most respirators. I didn't mean to imply that any filter previously linked to wouldn't work or that the the ones in the broken link can't work with the 7500. Most of the filters I saw while shopping say will fit with the 5000, 6000, 7000, etc series which led me to think that most of them will work with the 7500. I know for certain the 2901 P100 filters will work.
