belt sander?.jpg Well? I can see it is a single phase motor. Would it have any use in knife making? Guy wants $450 cdn for it. 5 hp motor. 4 inch wide belt.
 
For $150, I would say yes. For $450 ... NO!
It looks like a 3" or 4" industrial grinder, maybe an arly Burr King. Somewhat limited for knifemaking.
 
Looks like a homemade job to me. If it were variable speed and came with a set of wheels, I’d probably think about making an offer assuming it’s put together well. That said, for general knife work, I’d probably pass for something a little closer to the 2” wide belt range.
 
Looking the photo over more closely, I tend to agree with Drew that it is home made. Nothing looks right as far as alignment or adjusting … pass on it.
