What type of HI Khukris Would an Arnis Practitioner Like?

I have a buddy that flew all the way from California for my wedding party this past fall and I'd like to get home something special. A HI blade would certainly fit the bill and I might even have the perfect one in my collection. Not being familiar with that style of Martial Arts I'm looking for some advice.

Thank you very much!

Billy

PS: I wouldn't mind training in it myself. This is his style:

Well, I dunno. It's sorta like saying what sort of rapier would a Kendo practioner prefer .... I'd suggest a traditional Phillipino weapon if he plans on using it in class or for a demo. Maybe a barong or bolo (Like the Valiant ones).

That said, my favorite fighting type khuks are the cheetlangi styles, followed closely by the traditional sirpuatis and kobras.

Thank you Pat, well my buddy has blackbelts from so many different styles I can't even name them all. I think the key is an edged weapon that would be fast and furious. Hows that sound?

Thank you for the reply.

Billy for fast and furious you can't beat the Chitlangi. I'd recommend an 18" model and that's unseen as I have the longer 21"+ model, but it is still fast and furious.
I'm thinking the 18" model would fit the bill and be closer in size to the Barong and the Bolo.

the bolo is porbbaly the closes i've seen... buuuut if i recall correctly i've only seen 2 ever come from HI, the original special order and one deal of the day.

i'm lovin the 18" kobra... that said, the patang is also good times. i'f i was going to fight with it, i'd want 2 rings installed though, one for each hand position to keep them from sliding down in a swing. hehehehe.... then there is the falcata.. oooooh the falcata. if i modded the handle to be one handed, it would be an impressive thing. you could keep it in front with the blade pointed toward your opponent, for the blade strike, a short fast swivel in the center of the blade would be enough to sink the blade in, and if you didnt have time, you could punch/check the guy with the handle curve.

aiki-jujutsu khukuri style

For the HI options (regularly available at least) I'd prefer the Chit, siru, or kobra in an 18" length. Bigger guys may prefer the 21, but I find I lose speed with any khuk over 18" unless it is very thin. I must say I'd totally forgotten about the Falcata, adn I'm sure I missed seeing th HI bolo.

If anyone has pics of some of these bad boys I'd love to see em if you wanna show them off!

Thanks,

Billy

I've done a bit of escrima (same as arnis), Latosa concepts escrima. I dont know the style that your freind practices.
If I had to choose an HI product in regular production I would take the Tarwar, for a khuk definatly a chit or Kobra about 20" but I like combat blades long.

Nice collection, Seth - could you refresh my memory on that stubby sword next to the katana?

The Falcata is much too heavy for a good martial arts knife. Stick with the lighter ones as has been mentioned.

I have been in Kali/Arnis arts for many years as an instructor and have been working with Khukuris for a very long time. I would say a stock Khukuri that works fine with those styles of martial arts is the Kobra, and almost as good a sirupate. I myself like the balance model. These blades work well as fast fighters and for the drill routines they are great.

A light BGRS has a blade shape and weight that might work...

Something like 15.5" 20 oz. or so...

Can do some real work too...

I love elipses...

We used to have a member here who practiced arnis named Broken Arrow. He liked to use either an 18" GS or a 20" sirupati.

You might also take a look into the Uddha swords. Like a steel escrima.
