what do u guys think is a khukuris thats good for hacking, chopping, bout 15" +/-
and as THICK as possible. Pls let me know. Preferable full tang (though not a must) Finishing isnt important at all. But hope to have as little engravings as possible. As I am on a budget, below 100. Heard that when a khukuris is drawn, it must draw blood, issit true? Sorry for all the questions, just neeeded some advise.

Go for the WWII model . Its in the size and price range you want . I have one and it is the perfect size to carry .

The 15 inch panawal is full tang and has a fat blade. It's not too heavy either. I have the 18 inch panawal and I love it. It has a bigger handle and is heavier but not too heavy.

Check out the Panawal. It has a full tang, is about 15" OAL, is about 1/2" thick and has extra mass in the forward part of the spine to make it a superb chopper.
I don't have one but all reports are that while they are not fancy they are very tough and excellant at chopping.
I believe they are well under $100.

That myth about the knife having to draw blood every time it is drawn is ....bogus.

In Nepal the khuk is used as a utility knife by farmers and tradesmen. It is not just an instrument of war. These fellows certainly don't go around cutting themselves every time they need to use their blade.

I dunno bout it, but this was told by a Gurka soldier that I see when I was in the army (Singapore) where they call it national service. There was once when I asked one of them to show me the knife but all he did was to pull it up to the angle and refuse to pull any further. When asked he said in english, take out must cut. He must be trying to prevent me from see his knife.

While every legend has some basis in reality, I think this "blood requirement" stems from a few soldiers "helping" their repuation as warriors - an embellishment that is not at all required, as we know that the Gurkha has no equal.
