What type of knife do you carry in bushcraft?

New here and curiousas to what is your opinion of best all around blade style? Nessmuk, bushcraft, bowie, etc. Sorry if this has already been asked.

For me the best all around knife is a Victorinox SAK of some type. After that it all depends on "where and when." I have different larger tools for different times and places, but the SAK is ever-present.

I guess it is usually whatever I have with me when I end up in the woods, many times it is a folder of some sort. I do prefer the drop point but then I like the drop point for everything. One exception is the Tyson Bushcrater From Breeden Knives. I have a new one from JK Knives. The small Busse's are great as well.

I am one that does not really see the Bushcraft knife as a specific model or shape. If it works for you in the woods, it is a good bushcraft knife. Many like the Kephart and that is a good choice IMO.

I don't know which is the best, but I am very happy with my Mora's. They can be used for many purposes. Carving tent pegs, preparing food and many other tasks which require a blade.

Usually when I am stump shooting with my longbow I'll carry a large chopper of some sort. The past year it was a Chinese copy of a TM bowie. Works excellent. Other times it will be my Master Hunter. I have Mora's and a Leuku and a bunch of other knives but really truth be told my old Master Hunter is the best I have ever used. keepem sharp

As I posted somewhere else, nowadays I'm favoring small to medium sized blades, but always drop points.

I guess it would depend on terrain, intended uses, duration of trip, and what other gear might be brought along. For instance--if I an axe will be coming, I'd probably opt for something smaller. If no axe, and I'm going to have to depend on the knife, I'd probably bring a larger 'chopper.' Am I going on an 'overnight' with probably little knife usage or a week trek through the forest where the knife will get used alot?

All in all, if I had to pick one, I'd probably opt for 5-7 inch heavy duty, preferably drop point. A SwampRat M6, CRK Shadow IV/Project I, something along those lines. Many decent choices.

FWIW, I seldom carry only one. I usually have fixed blade, a folder, and/or SwissArmy/Multitool. Can't be too prepared...

In the end, w/ decent gear, it'll be the operator, not the tool, that makes the difference.

I think I've carried just about everything already mentioned.

Also ... Andy Roy (Fiddleback) makes a number of excellent knives for the woods, including his own Bushcrafter. But I really love his Woodsman blade!

Jeremy Horton's smaller EDC blades are also terrific in the woods.

My usual carry knife is my Skookum Bushtool. It is light & carries great. The blade works great for Bushcraft chores and is one great slicer.

If I want something more heavy duty I will carry my Laconico HWK. This is more of a heavy duty camp style knife.

I always carry a multitool of some sort or a swiss army knife for a backup cutter.

I know there are strong feelings on both sides of the fence, but I have been using a Tracker knife from TOPS for a few years. To include 2 deployments in the middle-east I like being able to use it for multiple tasks. That being said, I am buying a Busse NMSFNO for one of the members here.
