What type of knot for a necker ?

your about to get a hundred replies telling you to use beaded chain or something to break away just FYI :D
and the same people wear neck ties to work never thinking they could be strangled anyday by public transport or disgruntle worker ETC.

lol thanks for the info i have paracord so thats what im going to use just looking for a good knot to tie it with thanks for the link jfn

I use a single double fishermas so that the other end is free to slip through. How easily it does this is based on how tight you pull the knot. A little tricky to get right though.

i use paracord and a cordlock, but then again im not too worried about it becoming a noose.

I was going to tell you how good the fisherman's knot works for this but I see others beat me to it.

dont forget you can always use the old standby, the square knot. But I usually use a single or double fisherman's knot.

I use paracord with a 1- 1.5" piece of heat shrink tubing for electrical wiring connecting them. works great holds well but I tested it and it breaks away too. being strangled is not in my top ten things to do list.

I use paracord. I'm not afraid of someone choking me with it. I use the fisherman's knot also. I cinch the knot down so both ties are tight together. I now have a circular piece of paracord. Push one end through the hole on the sheath and feed it up and THROUGH the two strings and pull. You now have a necklace with the fisherman knot on the sheath and the rest of the cord is smooth so it can lay on your neck. The only thing you need to do is find the right size paracord so the ends don't get in your way. I realize this is probably not easy to visualize; ask for pics if you need them.

Edit: For those worried about choking, I think of it like this. If I'm going to get attacked by surprise, it's going to be from behind me. If the attacker decides to choke me with my own "necklace" he's going to grab the back and pull it up. When he does, the neck knife will be against my throat. AKA perfect position for me to grab it and sink it into my attackers flesh. If someone attacks me from the front, my priority will be to NOT let him get to my throat (just as when I'm NOT wearing a neck knife). If the attacker still managed to choke me from the front, I'll use my folder. If you've ever "fought/wrestled" with a friend (I mean for fun of course), you realize quickly that it's not easy to get to their throat if their fighting back. Of course this is all just my experience. I have no formal fighting training or anything like that. It's just the way I see the situation.

Edit 2: I just realized, if someone tries to choke you from the front with your own necklace, he'd have to pull it BEHIND you. If he just grabbed it and pulled it towards him, nothing would happen except the paracord digging in to the back of your neck.

reckon it depends on what you do for a living, and how you roll in the woods(and on the streets). someone who wears a tie to work everyday probably doesnt have as much a chance of getting anything tied to em caught in heavy equipment.
after almost 20 yrs, i finally removed the ti/gold wedding band my late husband gave me. (that was before he died, a few yrs back now) working with belt driven machines, it and things hanging round my neck make me nervous. still love that guy and still love having all my fingers. have caught stuff while climbing in the woods. not really clumbsy but sometimes drive myself hard. yeah, there should at least be some thought when wearing a necker. life's too short to live in fear but some thought about how you roll could mean the difference between living well and otherwise...peace

You can also use the ball chain inside a piece of gutted paracord. You can still use the cord if needed, and it will still breakaway. I have had to do this with my neck knives to keep them from pulling my hair.

I use a snapped shut cord lock end on mine too and I'm also not worried however, I suspect the cord lock will give before I was strangled by something or someone. The cord ends are only inside the lock about 1/4".

I use a Double Windsor. The knot is symmetrical and nice and fat. You gotta keep everything tight while you're tying it though. Here's a little tip: before you slide the knot into place, pull the corners out to form that nice triangle shape.

It'll look sharp.
