I just got my first Emerson knife, its a CQC-7 mini with green handles. It has a very pleasent, distinct smell. I wonder if it could be the oil they put on from the factory. Does anyone know what kind of oil they use. I would like for all of my knives to smell like this.
Thanks
Chris

ahhh the NEW EMERSON SMELL!

I think its the G-10 slabs that are what you smell. As for oil I use tuf-Glide or Mil Tec oil on all my Emersons.

The tuf-glide works great!

I have noticed on all my Emersons the smell goes away long before I need to re-oil them. So if it was the oil I think you'd smell it for a longer period of time.

I believe its the G-10

anyway be very careful smelling Emersons especially if they are open LOL!

I hope to have that smell in my house come Monday. Yes, finally a mini commander. I had one on order last November but I cancelled it out of impatience. Now, it is mine:D

I was looking at some pictures on another site that Dexter Ewing had posted from his trip to the factory. In one caption that stated the pictures were where some of the knives were repaired/assembled. A few cans of wd-40 sat on the tables, didnt see any other lubricants. Enjoy the knife, EKI knives are good and sturdy.

WD-40: the mans air freshener. :) seriously, can anyone here think of a nicer smell than WD-40 mixed with the smell of sawdust, with a hint of engine oil smell and/or cordite mixed in? :)

These were captioned as the "assembly" tables in the Emerson factory. I can see windex, wd-40, and two syringes with ??? inside them? Maybe grease?
