I was given a Leatherman wave. It looked like it hadn't been used. Went catfishing and used it a couple of times. It looks as if wants to rust. I would have thought they would be stainless. Any suggestions on oil?

The Leatherman website recommends WD-40. Powernoodle recommends it as well. The lubricant component is mineral oil. Rock on.

"After cleaning, dry your Leatherman and apply a light machine oil or a water-displacing product (WD-40®) to force out moisture trapped in the joints. This also helps protect the tool from further corrosion and sticking." Link.

I use those little WD-40 Pens and I have never had a single rust spot but hey I take care of my tools!

I use tuf glide on my tools. I have a little bottle of tuf glide to squirt into joints and i have a tuf cloth to wipe them down with.

I like Break Free CLP. For a light oil, it's a very good rust preventative. It also leaves a coat of teflon for long lasting dry lubrication. Great stuff.

You might be able to get a free sample if you email them. I don't know if it will work, but it's worth a try.

Thanks for the replies. I had been concerned about the break free. I have used it for years and is good stuff. I suppose if I didn't use the blade for food prep I would be O.K. Powernoodle, thanks for the site info. Regards.

Mineral oil is food safe and is very inexpensive. Ballistol is also food safe, but I've never used it.

Good idea. I forgot about that. I have a spray can of it. Good from wood to plastic. Some sites say it isn"t harmful if you eat it. I used it with water on my blackpowder rifles. Thanks.

My LM Wave was used around saltwater this week end (removing hooks from hard head catfish., washed it in clean water, sprayed with penetrating oil, then followed with WD40. Looks and works great.
Any good lubricant should do. I usually use something like RemOil, CLP, MCM, LPS, etc.
