What ultimately happens with CS returns?

When a knife is returned to whatever distributor for whatever reason, do you think that knife is ever resold as new? You know some one may take a look at it, may determine its within the standards. Put the knife in a new box with new seals and send it off as new again? And while Im on the subject why would you guess a folder would have two washers on one side and only one on the other?

I don't know about Cold Steel, but I do know that there is an entire industry out there of people who purchase returned merchandise in bulk (usually auctions) and then re-sell the stuff on Ebay, etc.

As far as why there would be three washers in a folder pivot, I got two guesses- either someone made a mistake (washers can stick together), or the pivot needed a third washer to operate properly.

That is a great ? that I’ve asked myself too. I’m just guessing here….I’d think it would be a case by case basis. If the returned item showed no damage, defect or use (ie. customer decided they simply do not want item because they don’t like design, etc) then I would imagine it’s resold as new. But if there is something wrong or it shows signs of use, then I too wonder where it goes. Any insight would be appreciated.

I just did a Google search on this topic, and it looks like here in the US it's illegal to sell "used" items as "new". Now what the legal definition of "used" is I don't know, I didn't look that deep into it, but I would have to assume that if a seal on the box has been broken that it would be considered "used". But who knows. And heck, it's not like businesses never break the law to save a few bucks.

I ask because if there was ever a CS folder returned for being subpar, I just received it. Bad edge, burnt tip, 3 washers, action felt like 80 grit sandpaper, the lockbar wouldn't fully seat upon closure half the time leaving the blade with free play. But after 3 hours getting it in shape she rocks now. Kilgar like you said, I imagine they put 3 washers in it in a attempt to get it to work halfway right. But Ill happily take a subpar CS folder any day over another brand.:D

I never could figure out why they use them washers that are like cellophane very thin plastic flimsy washers.

teflon or whatever they are require no lubrication. they won't collect dirt and you can dunk the knife in detergent - rinse and set in the sun to dry.

Well that sucks (the original condition of the knife). A guy shouldn't have to overhaul a new knife to make it right. I'm glad you were able to save it.
