I think this used to be an imperial barlow, from what I can tell.

I bought a box lot of knives and such at an auction wendsday (oh, yeah thats where the rest of my money went :/), this was the poorest in the bunch.

The name is worn off, I can make out USA stamped vertically on the right edge of the tang, so it leads me to believe it was imperial. It didn't deserve that kind of treatment. So I started grinding, eliminating and reshaping, an hour or so later I was holding this in my hands.

One layer now, I reshaped the previously broken blade into a nice little wharnecliffe. The handles, are made from a piece of surveyors stake that had some figure in it. I slapped a little stain and oil on it and that is how she turned out. I may do a little more polishing on the blade, or I may leave it a matte finish, I am not sure. So, What do you all think?

Muskrat man to the rescue! Nice little knife, and not many would EVER figure out what the heck it was! A wharnie is always a good choice.

Pretty good for a couple hours work.
It is always interesting to see what you can make out of what someone else throws out.

You know, I probably would have thrown a knife like that away.

Nice recycling, MM

Leave the matte finish as a reminder of its humble beginnings. Also, you don't want to take any more steel off the area at the end of the nail pull!.

Thanks for the comments guys. I think i'll leave it a matte finish. I didn't want to take the spine so close to the nail pull but I had to to make it look right. I think i'll be making more wharnies in the future
