I’ve been trying to figure out which version I have here. And around what years it might be from. It’s before the two dots came out but not the earliest versions either. Near as I can tell it’s from around 1970-74 but can’t find anything more specific. All the links I’ve tried say “404 file not found” or something along those lines. I have to say it is the smoothest and strongest locking of all my 110’s. Any information would be much appreciatedIMG_2492.jpegIMG_2491.jpegIMG_2493.jpeg

I think there is a data sheet that Joe Houser put together. I found it on another forum. If I’m reading it correctly, you have a 5th version variation 3 (Buck over 110, over USA with no dots, small, headed brass scale rivets, and a stainless headed lock bar rivet) Someone more knowledgeable than I will correct me if I’m wrong, I’m sure. That’s a sweet knife.

Man I hate that 404 file. Always screwing things up. But yeah I’d guess about early 70s timeframe too, but trying to pinpoint with no blade stamp and no dots, has to be around then but so hard to tell. Youll have to get into some research there. I would email Buck with these photos and see what the expert of the experts say. Try their history email:

looks like a V5V1

try this on for size, you may enjoy it....

That link is super helpful. JC’s knife can’t be a v5v1 because his knife has “110” between Buck and USA, and the stamp is read point-up. Can’t be a v5v2 because that also has an inverted stamp. From the link you posted, it has to be a v5v3 because v5v4 is the two-dot. So it dates to 1972-1974

not paying attention, yes V5V3, although a transitional knife as the handle pins are offset unlike the even/parallel pins on the v5v3
Did Buck reblade knives back in the 70s? Could have been a v5v1 handle with a new blade that replaced a broken one. Or maybe they used some leftover v5v1 handles. Good catch with those pins. I assumed it was the way the photo was taken.

I recall a previous conversation regarding these knives, may have even been mentioned in an article that they were "transitional". I would think they would have re-bladed knives back in the day, but I do not know for sure.

I can say I've seen more no dots with unparallel pins like JCs than the parallel pin examples.
