What Was the Buck 178?

About 30 years ago I bought this Buck belt sheath in a little shop in West Yellowstone, MT. For a long time I used it to carry my 703. (I had to insert a piece of leather into it to keep the Colt from rattling around.) I got it out yesterday and noticed that it has the number 178 stamped on the back, and I started to wonder what the Buck 178 might have been. The only 178 I can find online is a "modern" design with a pocket clip (the Adrenaline), and I don't think this was made for that knife (and which probably didn't exist back then, anyway). Was there an earlier Buck that was designated the 178? Or could 178 just be the model number of the sheath? Thanks for any help you might be able to provide.

The sheath is for the medium size Wenger SwissBucks (c.1990's).
In this particular case, 178 is the model of the sheath, not the knife.

Thank You, Thank You, THANK YOU! Mystery solved in seven minutes. Very much appreciated. I was also curious about the logo, which I didn't recognize, and that mystery is solved, too. Guess I need to be on the lookout for a SwissBuck now!
