What was the very first Columbia River Knife and Tool Company's first knife.

Back in the early 90's I picked up a box set from a little known company back then, it came with a Maglite Solataire and a Gatco pocket croc stick sharpener, was this the very first CRK&T knife, it was called the MAC Commander?

This is the knife that belongs to the box, the Mag Lite Solitaire is supposed to be black.

I do'nt know if thats it.It looks like it has the LAWK's saftey.I ca'nt remember which the 1st knife was but it was the KISS that put them on the map. They continued going strong with their collabrations after that.

The first batch of knives from CRKT were the Wrangler (small rubber handled lockback). There was also an early model very similar to your pic (without lawks) and the Seal-Tac series (2 knives to start). The wrangler also had a variation, one with a built in spark plug gapper (dont know how well that sold).

Also very early on were plans for a CRKT/CRK Sebenza collaboration. I think only a few prototypes were built, never released as a regular item.

I have the commander doolittle, which looks exactly like the knife above, with no lawks. I thought that the mirage was earlier than that line, though

They in all probability came out with several models at the begining. I was looking at some old Blade magazines and they had a blurb about a new knife company, (CRKT) and the knife they had in the photo was a Cobra Gold designed by Jim Hammond.

I bought one of these back when CRKT first started out and they had a pamphlet showing the other knives they made. I recall knives like the one you posted.

Hey, that looks almost exactly like the Red Dog that folded on my index finger and gave me permanent nerve damage

This was when CRKT was very new and the Commander series was one of their first.

The Hammond designs were some of the first, along with a few others. I don't remember exactly which ones. New knife companies pop up and then disappear all the time so I don't get too excited until they make it a little while. I can remember watching their booth at the Blade Show get bigger and busier every year.

The KISS came out after they were pretty well established, but it certainly gave them the financial stability to become bigger players.
