What was your first custom? Show a pic/thumbnail if you can. Do you still have it?
My first custom was a Bud Nealy "Benadau" (sp). Sorry I can't post a pic. I still have it and still love it.

My first custom was a stag handled lockback folder, fully fileworked, made by Vernon Hicks(now deceased),bought from Paul Basch at the NY Custom Show when Paul had his own business.440C blade,SS bolsters. Of course I still have it. Love it as much as when I bought it.I think it was about 1983. I remember walking back to the table, looking at it, walking away, sweating, do I dare spend that much for a knife? Took me about an hour to get the courage up to buy my first knife over $50. Cost the kingly sum of $175. After I bought it, I stopped at Bruce Voyles table and asked him if I paid too much, etc. Bruce very patiently explained to me that if you figured out how many hours it took the maker to make the knife, plus the cost of materials, he really doesn't make that much an hour. Made alot of sense to me.
Here's a pic of her:

Ever since I was very young, I wanted a Left Handed Stilleto.

In 1988 I found Butch Vallotton and asked him to make me this.

And yes; I still have it.

Kit Carson Medium Model 4 with a 3.5" Talonite drop point blade. Walt Welch graciously suppplied Kit with the Talonite bar stock for my knife. Carbon fiber scales with titanium liners and bolsters. The best liner lock I've seen. If I could keep only one of my custom folders, this would still be the one...

My first was a Barry Dawson, small utility F/B. Don't have anymore, gave it to a friend for his birthday. Now Barry's knives have gone up quite a bit in price, sometimes wish I'd held on to it!!
But, it's been replaced quite a few times since.

Yes, I still have it. I know nothing about this maker (Hembrook), and bought the knife while on vacation in Montana in 1996. It is a random damascus blade, 3 3/4 inches long (8 inch OAL) with jigged burnt bone scales and an engraved brass guard. 3/16 inch stock. Very stout for its size. I like it a lot. When I bought it I told myself and my wife that it was the Last custom knife I would ever need. Hah!

My first handmade knife was a Denning #6, since I bought it from Les Robertson and had no input into it's design I don't consider it to be a custom.
My first custom was a Lonewolf dropped point hunter, with random pattern Damascus and stag handle, made from my drawings. It can be seen on my PhotoPoint site under "My Knives".
My first custom folder just arrived this week made by Art Washburn, wharncliff blade with raindrop pattern Damascus and stag scales. Do you see a pattern here? That knife can be seen here.

I don't have my first custom knife yet, but it will be a Kit Carson M16 A1. It sure is hard to wait 2 years but I'm sure it will be worth it.

Darrel Ralph Apogee with a 4-1/4" blade. One nice knife, still being used.

My first handmade knife was a Puma Expedition (I know that this knife comes from a factory but it is a limited prodcuction handmade survival knife.)

My first custom knives were a pair of Emerson CQC6s that I bought from Les Robertson at the start of the year. It has been downhill fast since then.

Regards,

Ed

Mine was a 4" drop point hunter with Ivory Micarta scales by Fred Carter in the 70's and it is still my favorite knife because it was my first.
