What was your first multi-tool?

Mine was a Leatherman PST, which I had bought back in high school for my building trades class (Building a house). I carried it everyday, even in my regular classes in my back pocket concealed so I would get in trouble for having a tool with a knife in it. I had it for a month in the class before I sold it for 2 reasons. 1 was because i couldn't bit down on anything hard without the handles digging into my hands (an apparent problem many other peopl had with the tools) and 2 was one day I was using the knife, which didn't lock, and it came back in on my index finger, resulting in stitches. I than sold it and bought a Schrade tough tool. Carried it for many years. Still have it as a matter of fact, and have since added the Leatherman Fuse and Wave to the collection.

A knock off copy of Leatherman's PST. Screwdriver bent the first time I used it.

First proper multi tool was a Gerber, bought in 1997, with non locking tools.

In law school about 18 years ago, I bought for myself a Leatherman multitool as a reward for getting an A in contracts. Not sure what its called, but its about 2/3 as long as a Wave and pretty plain Jane.

Sometime in the mid-nineties Home Depot had a display of the Schrade ToughTool so I picked one up, thinking it might come in handy at work. After that, I got hooked on multi's and for a while, blew all my money on them.;)

Mine was a gerber (don't remember the model), promptly threw it away after it broke.
Never bought another one since.

All LM's and Vicky's now.

My first multi-tool was a really cheap dollar store special that somebody gave me as a gift- it still sits in my fishing bag. My first quality multi-tool was a Leatherman PST.

I still kick myself today for selling the pst. It was good and broke in when I bought it. I remember being able to open it like a butterfly knife, it was so loose. If only it had not have cut my finger, I would still have it. I remember well what happened. I had the blade under a piece of bailing wire, and in the process, the tool come down in my palm, and forced my finger over the entire surface of the cutting edge. Nearly cut it to the bone, but it was my own fault, you cant blame a tool for hurting you, 99% of the time its the user.
All the tools I buy now have the locking feature though.

Like so many others, my first was a PST, but frankly, I found it disappointing. Great idea to include real pliers, but cranking down them could be painful. If wearing a glove or a padded handkerchief to absorb the sharp edges, I could bear down enough to bend the handles. The knife and other implements were okay, but I saw no real advantage over my SAK and wound up giving the Leatherman to my son, who liked the light weight and pocketability. He still carries it and uses it just about every day.

Then, about 1996, I discovered the Supertool. With its heavy duty heft and locking implements, it had, IMHO, an almost perfect array of well made blades and tools, missing only scissors. A few months after I acquired the ST, LT introduced the Micra, a perfect supplement. For years, that was my constant EDC. I have always considered the ST my "real" first multitool.

I had some cheap knock off many years ago. I was ten or so (I'm 28 now, for reference). The aluminum scales bent out somehow, after I used it for a "butterfly knife". I was young and impressionable hehe. My next proper multi was a Charge TTi that I didn't pick up until October of last year. Love that thing to death.

A Leatherman PST from SMKW when they were still in their old building somewhere around 1988 or 89.,,VWB.

Mine was & still is a Leatherman Super-Tool.That is if SAK's aren't considered multi-tools.

In 1987 my dad bought me a cheap crescent wrench tool with a knife blade, various screwdrivers, etc. I loved it, used it a lot, and promptly lost it:o

My first "modern" tool as a Gerber 600 series that I bought my freshman year of college in 1999. I used it for a bit, and I liked the idea but not the construction. I switched over to a LM PST for a bit, then a Super Tool 200, then a wave (plus several others), then another wave, then a Surge, and a fuse, and a SOG...well you get the idea;) I have over a dozen full sized tools, plus scores of SAKs and mini-tools.

The little crescent tool started me on this path over 20 years ago:)

I know several people who have that, and I know several who have the Wave, (including myself). We all love our tools, and I guess it just comes down to how much a person wants to pay. I know guys who wouldn't pay the extra money for titanium handles and s30v blades. Im not saying I wouldn't, but I do know the knife blades have 420HC blades, which are the same as what was on my Buck pocket knife, which I carried for 6 years before getting this. My buck held a great edge, and if it got close to dull, I could have a razor sharp edge back on it in less than 5 minutes. The Wave has got me out of many jams, and am happy with it, but I am glad you love your tti. I look forward to takin mine to the woods this coming deer hunting season!
