What will happen if Camillus closes?

Is Camillus really going out of business? If that happens, will Becker Knife and Tool manage to somehow carry on under their own name or perhaps get scooped up by another knife company and allowed to keep producing Becker Knives? I'm a big fan of Becker Knives, and I hope they can stay in business. Does anyone have any information on this?

This is only my guess... the BK&T folks are bright people, I would guess they've been aware of this for some time and have been looking into other manufacturers, just in case. Some companies review all their vendors/contractors periodically regardless, just to make sure they're getting a good deal.
I would have to say, all the companies getting their knives made by Camillus, will just have them made the same way by someone else. Believe me, someone or someone's will be more than happy to fill those orders. That's cool for us, but not so good for Camillus, of course.

Now, if they went offshore for their manufacturing, that would just plain suck.

As long as they're made to the same or superior specs and sold at the same price.....the buyer won't see any difference.

I just feel sorry for the Camillus workers who lost their jobs.

If I am not mistaken, Camillus purchased Becker Knife & Tool. If Camillus goes under, BK&T go under, unless it is sold. If it is sold, it will probably be purchased by an offshore company.

Look for them to be made in the Peoples Republic of China!

Which is going to be one of the leading knife producers in the future!
Also in quality. They learn quickly and their technology is expanding like
crazy. China is becomming "the new Japan", as sad as it is for workers in knife factorys
in the western world. Evolution can't be put to a stop.

First time I've heard this, how unfortunate. I had assumed Ethan Becker would just find a new supplier (he's done it before). If Camillus really does go out of business (not sold), I wonder what happens to the design rights to the Becker line? I wonder if Mr. Becker could start up again with someone else, if he was so inclined?

Well, I have been doing some investigation and it appears that because of something that happened, possibly a breach of contract on Camillus' part, Ethan Becker may well be able to start having his knives made by another company. If anyone knows more about this situation, I'm sure the folks on this forum would love for you to share the information. It would be great to see the Becker line continue.

In another thread from yesterday:

I know the Beckers were made out of the same steel as the Carbon V knives. Camillus is making Beckers again. I can't tell you whether they are using the same steel or not any longer but I wouldn't doubt it.

I have posted this before in the Camillus section, but am posting here as well to quell some of the more outlandish rumors swirling around.

It is no secret that Ethan is in the process of extricating himself from Camillus who are in default of their agreement. It is public record that a temporary restraining order has been issued on Camillus in this regard as part of the process.

That's all I am at liberty to say at this point, but it should answer the most important questions.

Sounds like this is a BAD time to buy anything recently produced by Camillus. God only knows what you might get in terms of quality.

It is also not a secret that Camillus is manufacturing BKT knives in Camillus, NY as we speak.

Do you know when they started making them again? I ask this because I have read that Camillus told their workers that they would only be hiring back 15 of their 78 employees, and that they would be calling those 15 within a couple of days. A few days later there had been no calls, and nobody had been asked to go back to work. That was near the end of November, only about three weeks ago. This information came from the Camillus employees.
