Just want some opinions on what you guys think will make a better camp / survival knife the Sarge 7 or the Tglb. Also would like to use for emergency defense against animals.

Both similar to size and width. Blade profiles very different, obviously. I like the Sarge 7. The handle feels more natural, The guard on the TGLB would get in the way of some tasks I believe. However if I had to choose between the 2, The TGLB because it is slightly less money, mostly due to options. I think the Sarge 7 would be better at food prep as well. I also like the fact the Sarge 7 i have seen are either satin or beadblast which means easier to sanitize/clean. as you can see it is a tough decision, but at least its not a buy both answer.

here is a comparison pic

I'd recommend getting both knives while they're available at the introductory cost. If you like that size knife, they're two you want to own. I'd say the Sarge7 is the better skill knife for camping. The TGLB with the saber grind and finger guards is a little more bulletproof for the less subtle.

Both are great knives!
I'd say Sarge would probably be better for camping duties, it's very light for the size and no coating will mean easier cutting and chopping. And it does look a bit more 'docile' than TGLB... Might be easier to have & use around sheeple...

I would love to have a Sarge, i think it would be the better "general purpose" knife. I do have a pork shank that's great for light work.

i'd say, if you're having fun in the woods, the Sarge, if you end up in a serious survival situation, i'd probably prefer the TGLB. Just guessing, though. Since i haven't been doing much of either lately (since i discovered busse) :-(

This.
survival - tglb
camping - sarge 7

against animals though - .45 ACP. If you are lucky enough to spot them before they attack you (especially feline species)

the choil on the SARGE7 is more comfortable too if you have to do any small knife work with them.

I'm very happy with my SARGE except that I miss the jimping from the SAR 4/6/8. But since the TGLB doesn't have a jimping either... I'd go for the SARGE. I especially love the balance and the comfort of the handle, but both is very subjective. I even cut a scorpions tail off with it not long ago, so it works quite well against animals :D ;)

The grip is slightly more secure on the TGLB, mostly due to the handle shape being almost identical to the SARGE but with magnum swells.
The trade off for the mags, is the funny shaped choil and the double guard which is not anywhere near as intrusive as it looks.
So really it comes down to whether your hand will enjoy the magnum grip of the TGLB which can be had in competition finish sans coating, or if your hand prefers the nicer choil and thinner handle of the SARGE.
It is a tough personal call that you will have to make for your self, but neither choice is wrong as they are both excellent knives.

I too miss the jimping on the SARGE, but if I didn't have a user SAR 6 & 8 already I would keep the SARGE over a TGLB, but not over an original TG. The few extra ounces of the original TG feel better to me than the TGLB, but the TGLB is still a great knife.
