sorry didn't know how to search for this. I have a frn handle with really dip texturing and want to fill it in. Im thinking giving shoe goo a try since its easy to find. what is something easy to find/relatively cheap that has had good results? thanks

Shoe Goo will stick okay, but it is rubbery when cured, not as firm as the FRN. Epoxy will bond to FRN
if the handle is oxidized, then cleaned with acetone. I'm not sure I'd trust the bond totally, because the epoxy isn't as flexible as the FRN and could pop off when handle is flexed. The Shoe Goo is a safer bet. Molten nylon will stick great, but not practical..

Try to find a 2 pack polyurethane glue. These are as sticky as hell, strong, & seem more flexible than epoxy. I haven't used on FRN, but they will stick to anything epoxy does.

FRN is Fiber Reinforced Nylon.

Nylon is notoriously hard to bond to. Being a thermoplastic, there are no reactive sites to which an adhesive can chemically attach. In industrial applications where a really robust bond is required, nylon is sometimes treated by a plasma prior to application of the adhesive. The plasma degrades the surface of the nylon, leaving reactive sites to which adhesives can bond.

But, you can bond to it without such treatments, it just isn't a very strong bond.

I think I would avoid shoe goo if I were applying to a knife handle. I find that shoe goo dries to a rather soft and kind of cheesy hardness.

I think I would clean the handle well with acetone and make sure it is dry before applying. Then I would probably try some epoxy adhesive and cross my fingers.

id go with an epoxy as well. I concur with the acetone thing, id possibly scuff the handle a bit with a rough scotchbrite pad first too.

You can color most good epoxys too which might be cool. POST PICS!! goodluck
