today i bought tires and rims of all things-couldnt find any used rims for my new corolla under 75 bucks-
found them online for 40 shipped so i bought some kumo snows also-

never thought i would be buying tires online-

Some manufacturers won't warranty online. Other than that, and the lack of a store front to help, online is a good thing.

Man, everything can be found online, and at a good price. That said, I still like to support local business whenever possible.

I buy a lot online. I like being able to find the best prices. Exactly what I want and being able to review opinions of the products easily.

I also like being able to give and see feedback on eBay. Let others know my shopping experience.

Wish I could give feedback to some "local merchants."

I needed brakes for my van. $99 at "Just Brakes." Lifetime warranty!

Sounds good. They pull all four wheels and then begin to tell me why the job will cost $700! Things like $42 per wheel for new springs to hold the brakes together. Little cheap springs. $189 to replace the wheel cylinders on the back wheels.

I look at the wheels cylinders. My van is less than 4 years old. no leaks, they look fine to me. "Are they failing?" I ask. "No," he responds, "but they might!"

"Put it back together! I am leaving!" but I relent, I even buy a new brake drum. $40. He says it can not be used and that he has already ordered another one and he will give me a free brake liine flush. I figure that $40 is fair for a flush.

It takes him about two hours more for the new brake drum to arrive. Wish I had known. Did not think it needed replacing anyway. I have worked on cars all my life.

Now the right front wheel is grabbing and he says the "lifetime warranty" is no good because they "were not allowed" to do all the other things.

I could have bought ALL the parts, new everything, shoes, pads, springs, etc on eBay for about $50. A guy who works for me said he would be happy to remove and replace everything for $40.

Wish I had let him do it in the first place.

Would like to give "Just Brakes" and serious negative feedback. Let some other people know what I experienced.

I've bought tires online. They were shipped directly to the shop I use, and I jus paid them to put them on. Got great tires at a great price.

With very rare exceptions, I limit online purchases to $30 or less - as much money as I'd be willing to blow if the item isn't what it's cracked up to be.

Exceptions made for this place (:) ), for strings for my cello (expensive, but can't be bought where I live), books, and things from a couple of other retailers whose customer service is incredible (e.g Lee Valley Tools).

I buy online if it is something I know a great deal about or if I can't get it around here. Mostly, it's knives and books. The cutlery outlets around here are pretty much your big box stores (Target and Walmart), your big box sporting goods (Dick's...don't even get me started on them), and maybe a few smaller outfits who's pricing is comparable to buying the knife directly fromt he mfg (ie expensive:rolleyes: ) So, generally, all sharp and pointies are bought online. This is fine as 90% of my knife funds go to HI:)
I also tend to buy a lot of books online. I like to read a lot of horror, and the book stores around here are pathetic in that department. Amazon really likes me:)
The only time I buy anything online that I could get at the mall or a dept store is around Christmas. No thank you. I don't DO crowded shopping centers. I spent two years in retail hell working at Target when I was in college. Forget your door busters, forget your free wrapping. Just give me a high speed connection and an ichy mouse finger. I'll have everyone finished up before lunch;)

I really do like to do as much of my business locally as possible (and the reason i stay out of Walmart). As my family owns a small business, I know how tough online buying is for the little guys. We were going to start up an online venture, but since we sell stuff that is thought of as HazMat, we scrapped the idea early on since we don't have a drop shipper.
I can't tell you how difficult it makes my job explaining to people that the DEAL they got out of some mag or off some website is not compatable with their swimming pool. To save themselves 10 bucks and great service they have just cost themselves more money to ship the heavy stuff back...plus to be quite honest they lose a little bend-over-backwards service from me. I take my job seriously....and personally. I bend over backwards for my customers that do not bend me over if you get my drift;) Sorry, lil' bit of a rant there.

In short, I like online buying. However, i think some people just see price and don't really know what they are getting into when it comes to specialty stuff.

never crossed my mind to buy tires online-ive been buying art a place called '' dunn tire'' for 20 years-still would have if i had found rims locally-

just goes to show how little i pay attention when i read-just went back to the web page for the tires and saw they offer free mounting and balancing when you buy bolth rim and tire like i did-might buy a pair for the rear if this is a solid deal

My brother in law bought a Cadillac on-line. I told him he was stupid for bidding 20K sight unseen for a car (and I still think that) and that he was going to be ripped off (which he wasn't). He paid a good price for it and 3 years later its still running strong.

I buy a lot of stuff on-line, but I prefer to buy stuff I know about (knives, books, etc) and not electronics or mechanical stuff that may or may not work, since I don't have the patience to have to deal with an online dealer even if they do honor a warranty.
