What make of throwing knife would be good for a newbie to throwing, semi pro would be good not like the ones you see in the army navy surplus shops.
thanks Sammtv

I suggest coldsteel sureflight throwers. If I could learn to throw these, anyone can! Go on ebay and find them for cheap, its like 20-30 bucks for 3 which is cheap and should last you a long time. They are nicely balanced and work. I wouldn't recommend smaller ones or throwers which are lighter, they don't seem to stick as easily and some times the smaller ones spin too fast/much for a beginner.

Ditto! They're fantastic. Built to similar specs as the cold steel GI Tanto, and you should see the beating those knives can take! Do a youtube search for gi tanto destruction test.

I throw my GI tanto all the time. I don't use it for much else. Every time I think I must have broken it with a throw (ie bang a hard throw off the hammer poll of the Hawk already stuck in the target) no broken. The worst I have been able to do is nick the edge from the hardened hammer poll.

The full sized throwers will be much easier to throw and stick. Longer heavier throwers are much more consistent for sticking.

I find that I really love colt knives... good weight that wont be blown off by a strong wind... take a great deal of abuse, I got a pair in 2000 and I still have yet to break them, bear in mind after a while the rubber grip breaks down but just rewrap with electical tape and its all good to go again. heres the link to one, shop around tho, they are cheaper elsewhere but this is the best one that I can reccommend.. they are stainless but by no means weak, you wont be disappointed.

The other problem with lighter blades is that they really have a tendency to "plane" when thrown.
