I see many types of wood mentioned in this forum. I have a friend who does some wood work and has off cuts available. Can this be used or is the knife wood/scales treated differently. Please advise. Did I mention that I luv this forum.

Ipe. That stuff is awesome and I think the third hardest wood in the world? For utility. Box elder burl or orange osage for looks.

The only requirement is that the wood is seasoned. You don't want the wood cracking on you as it dries out.
Other than that use whichever you'd like.

I like curly birch and cocobolo. There are a lot of nice woods used for knife handles.

Curly Maple or burl woods tend to look really good. Look up some of Bark Rivers stuff they have some beautiful examples.

Ipe is some heavy duty stuff. It is one of the only woods that doesn't float, it's that dense. Also doesn't require any treatment. Use as is. I have come to like mahogany very much. Nice dense, beautiful grain. Rehandled.my H-1 and love it.would post a pic except my phone/camera went for a swim in the terlet. Happy hunting
