What wood is this?

Kind of difficult to tell from end grain, but I would guess maple. Whatever it is it looks cool!
 
Did a quick search and found some Kansei folders made of something called Chittum wood that look similar.....
 
With those medullary rays it looks like oak.

Could also be a really cool piece of beech. You can find some good rays and flecks in beech sometimes.

Spalted of course, which makes it way cooler lol.


What makes it difficult is that it's a stabilized end slice.
 
Cool wood regardless, but it was cool to see an end cut to see those lines. I would not have thought of an end cut to use as scales.
