I own an Al Mar Sere 2000. No doubt this is one of the best folding knives made today. It has been tried and tested and is available for around 100.00 dollars. The locking mechanism is one of the strongest today and it doesn't increase the cost of the knife. It also has the G-10 handles and the blade holds a great edge. I've thought about buying a Strider, Extrema Ratio, or a Mission Folder. The price tags on these knives aren't cheap so what will they offer me that I already don't have. I honestly feel I own the best knife for the buck bar none. Thanks for reading my forum.

IF WAR IS HELL. TAKE A BETTER PITCHFORK THAN THE DEVIL

I honestly feel I own the best knife for the buck bar none.

That's what's important man! If what you want is the best knife for the buck, and you are convinced that you have it that's what matters. If you like the knife you have and it works for you, who cares about what anyone else says? I own a Sere 2000 and it works for me.

Honestly, if I had it all to do over again I'd just get a Sere 2K and be done with it. I'm convinced it's all I could ever need in a folder.

I'm with you, I also have a SERE 2000 and I'm not looking for another heavy duty folder. I'd like a nice lightweight folder, and a few more fancy folders, and maybe a few axis locks, but the SERE is great as a heavy duty folder. I don't use folders too hard anyway; if I need to really abuse a knife I'll use a fixed blade.

Ok, so the real question is, where do I get a Sere 2K for $100? Then I can join the thread and talk about how great it is...

Thats how I feel about my Masters of Defense Trident and my Microtech UMS, I feel I have "the best" for me...Of course, I happen to just find more stuff that can be "the best" :D

NO YOU'RE WRONG!!!!
YOU NEED A SEBENZA.
YOU CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT A SEBENZA.
Oh, wait, I'm not a Sebenza person, sorry
(A very large amount of sarcasm intended)
Yes, you are right!!!!
Enjoy the Al Mar, it's one of my favorites!!!

The Sere really is a good knife. I had one for a while, but the swedge and the thumbstuds started to irritate me, so off it went.

I got to say, though, that was a pretty random shot at Emerson, bud. Not sure what the point of that was.

(edited: well, there was one there. I suppose that'll teach me to quote in the future.)

If I could afford a Sebbie I would. No shots taken at anybody it's not my way to down grade other knife manufacturers.

I wasn't downing any knife manufacturers.
I WAS downing the fanatical disposition of certain BF member towards overly enthusiastic claiming that God himself created the Sebbie for all of man, and it was good.
Different strokes for different folks. Let's keep open minds.

those sebs, lol, ya either love 'em or hate 'em, seems no middle ground, lol. i have had one for about 3 yrs now, carried it 1-3 times, looks NIB, just wasnt "me" thought about swapping it, NOOOO my son said, when he turns 14 (gasp next yr!!!) of all my knives, thats the one he wants.......he loves the seb!! a spydie gunting is #2 on the list, wish it was #1 lol.

they are pretty darned cool/pretty knives i must admit, just a little small for me i guess.....

OK, I'll jump into the fray. My SERE 2000 is my current "large" EDC. A BM mini grip is its travelling mate. I have asked myself a similiar question (is this "THE" EDC?). I've handled a large plain Sebenza, and I can honestly say "it's a really, really nice knife". I paid $120 USD for my SERE 2000. I would say my SERE is a "really nice knife". Is a Sebenza worth $230 MORE than my SERE? I dunno, I guess I compare the thinking to motorcycles (Do I need an 1000cc bike, or will a 600cc fit?). I'll probably buy a Sebbie next year anyhow, but I'm not sure I could bring myself to use a $350 knife to open anything other than the mail. I'll admit, my SERE has some "slightly" uneven grinds. But the action is smooth, the lockup is firm, and the VG10 is a great steel. Ergonomics are good, and blade shape is functional. It's no Sebbie in terms of fit and finish (mine isn't), but it is a great EDC. And even though I must admit an 806D2 is calling me, I am very happy with my SERE, and it has replaced my BM TSEK as my "large" carry. I've found it beneficial to carry a large (>3") and a small (<3") blade, for some reason, I can't find the "do all" EDC, though FWIW the SERE comes close. Just my $0.02.

Regards,

Shaun.

Everybody's tastes/needs/desires are going to be at least a little different. I've never handled a S2K. I'm sure it's a nice knife, but it has some features I don't really care for. It's not "me".
My one-hander of choice is the small Sebenza. I have both regular and classic. Each has it's own merits. I like one as much as the other. It is what works best for "me".
The Striders, Missions, Extrema Ratios, etc. all have their merits. The Strider SnG has caught my attention. Maybe someday I'll try one out.
All that being said, if one of the above named knives has what you're looking for, go for it.

I have a Sebenza. Nice well made knife. But, I seem to reach for the AFCK, the Buck/Mayo, and the SERE before I carry the Sebenza. As nice as they are, I think the Sebenza is a bit over-hyped. Yes I like mine, and I am not going to part with it, but I like the others a bit more.
