What would I gain . . .

Hello Gents,

I'm on a mega-folder kick lately and want some advice. Not trying to stir the pot or anything like that, just want some input.

I recently got a ZT301 Onion/Strider. It's an absolute beast of a knife and I really like it. My problem is this, I also want a Strider SMF.

From my point of view (from what I could gather), the ZT301 is a "production" Strider with the great design aspects of Mr. Ken Onion. I love the handle and the assisted opening is fantastic.

While I love the look of the SMF Strider, would I be gaining anything over the ZT? Any and all opinions/points of view would be most welcome.

Thanks in advance,

I like ZT301. I'm only looking pictures, but it seems to me that it has a better and more comfortable handle and if i'm not wrong it is assisted opening knife...

I own a SMF and i just aquired a ZT301 a few days ago. I like the AO on the ZT and the blade is a bit thinner which makes slicing a bit easier. Its a lot heavier than the strider too.

The SMF also has a foward choil which allows you to choke up on the blade for finer work also the strider is more comfortable in hand.

A benefit of the ZT is you can change the clip for up/down left/right carry.
I cant make up my mind which i like better so i just carry both. I say get the SMF you will like it.

What would I gain?

In my opinion, no. The knives are just too similar! As a matter of fact, you'd really "gain" if you saved the money (or got something a little more different).

Lets look at what a Strider SMF could possibly give you that your ZT doesn't have:

Strider design-Wait a minute, the ZT's got it!

Grippy, Ranger Green, G10 handle-Wait a minute, the ZT's got it!

S30V, tigerstriped blade-Wait a minute, the ZT's got it!

Ti Framelock-Wait a minute, the ZT's got it!

Oversized pivot-Wait a minute, the ZT's got it!

Hinderer lockbar stabilizer-Wait a minute, the ZT's got it!

You starting to catch my drift?;)

Good luck with whatever you choose.

The Strider SMF itself, unless it is a custom (MSC or DDC) version, is a "production" Strider, for all intents and purposes.

Thanks Gents for all the info.

I'm going to hold off on the SMF unless I can scoop one up for a deal.

So far the ZT has been quite the knife and I'm looking forward to seeing how it holds up in EDC rotation.
