What would the kamis use?

A thought occurred to me the other day: what are our beloved kamis' own favorites?
You see, after seeing a recent picture, with one of them hacking away with the new Panati Farmer's Knife (clearly showing that at least one, real professional found it a worthy tool), and then recalling how the late Uncle Bill thought so highly of, for example, the WWII, and with the common wisdom that khukuris are so commonplace, and used by everyone, I found myself wondering what the kamis, themselves, would carry, or even what's their favorite one to make. For I'd be really fascinated (and probably, quite enlightened) to hear their point of view on it.

Have there been any prior posts, adverts, or other information about what the kamis' opinions are? If so, could any of you point me that way?

That is a great question!

-but how are they going to answer?:D;)

That's about what I figured: waiting on a letter from Auntie. I can wait. :)

I know that at sometimes, the kamis have felt a need to make something unique, like "Bura's Boomerang" and the "Movie Model." Also, as I said, there was a picture of one kami using the Panati. But that's all the information that I have.

It was always my impression that the kamis used villager versions. From the HI Website:
What is a village khukuri? These are khukuris made for local use in Nepal for chopping, digging, hammering and the many other uses required for rural living. They are roughly finished but incredibly tough. They are made by village kamis who recycle leaf springs, pieces of railroad rail, and other steel that will forge into an incredibly strong blade. They will vary greatly in style and size as can be seen in the pictures of typical examples below.

Thes early 'villager' models sold by Himalayan Imports were not made by BirGorkha, and had a guarantee on blades, but not handles . Many of more recent 'villagers' are made by BirGorkha kamis in the style of khukuris used locally.

I suspect, though I may be wrong, that they all have their own preferences (being exposed to a wide-variety of styles that they themselves make), but that all of them prefer one between 15" and 20" in total length. Any more or less becomes less practical for everyday use and carry - if they find themselves needing to. A khukuri is a lot heavier than a golok or a bolo, and doesn't need to be as long - though their roles overlap depending on the type of khukuri/bolo/parang/golok/machete.

I eagerly await Yangdu's reply to your question - this could be interesting. :D

I will guess that in general they use what would be considered very plain functional blades similar to the villager models but maybe not even so nice, since a kami can fix and/or make another one at will, but that's just my long-winded, run-on sentence guess. ;)
