What would you buy: serrated or plain edge mini-Commander?

I'm going to get a new mini-Commander. Now I cannot decide if I should buy the plain edge version or the partially serrated. I've always leaned towards buying partially serrated blades. The knife will be used for general purpose light cutting and everyday carry. I may cut string, taped boxes, or cardboard during the day if anything.
I've never been very good at sharpening a plain edge and I'm sure that serrations are even more difficult to sharpen.
Since I'm only going to use it for light use it shouldn't become dull very easily.
Which version should I choose?

Thanks!

For a user I would go with the 50/50 configuration since you get the best of both worlds. You have a enough straight edge to open your mail, boxes, and whatever delicate work you need to do and then you have the serrations for all your heavy duty work. You are correct in your assumption that serrations are difficult but not impossible to sharpen but the good thing is that serrations even if they are partially dull will still cut, not as well as a razor sharp edge, but they will still cut ala a dull saw.

I went with the plain edge. Honestly with the types of material you said you'd be cutting, you don't need serrations. Even a good coarse-ground plain edge would be sufficient. As a matter of fact, it would work particularly well on cardboard.

I consider my Commanders to be self-defense personal protection blades. My work knives are the CQC-7 and my Raven Spear Point. Hence my Raven and the CQC-7 have serrations, my Commanders do not. Also my work knives see alot more sharpening and use than do my defense blades!

Serrations are more difficult to sharpen but remain sharper longer than a regular edge IMO. I have had relly good luck and success sharpening serrations on my Spyderco Sharp Maker, I also use the Spyderco professional ceramic stone kit on serrations.

It depends on what you feel is going to be the largest percentage of use, work knives are better with serrations, tactical defense knives better off with straight edge. Just my opionon.
