Wondering if you have abt 250 to 400 now what/which knife/knives would you buy now. And why do you buy that knive ?

Would you buy a custom knife, or a high end production knife ?

- So much knife - not enough money.

Medium to high end factory knives....

Microtech LCC (maybe $200?)
Benchmade Axis series. (roughly from about $140 each)
SOG fixed blades (Seal 2000, X42 Recondo). (from about $100 each)

Because I like them :D you can see above, there is still value in the factory knives.

The customs are for people with serious money, although there are some nice ones starting from about $200.

You can get a custom made from Bob Dozier for that money. Most all of his fixed blades are in this range,as a matter of fact you could get two of his fixed blades for that kind of money. He also make some great folders in this price range. I've heard nothing but high remarks on his Trappers. I have one of his fixed blades on order now.:D www.dozierknives.com

Take your time and get your moneys worth. Good hunting.

MADOG ATAC (because I can't control myself when I see it).
Or
Randall 25 (6 inch blade ironwood handle)

Both are incredible and don't have to say more (personal thought)

A Mike Obenauf custom folder is around $350.00 for the large models and $300.00 for the small models. But you end up getting about $450.00 to $500.00 worth of knife! Check him out.

thks guys - - a lot knife nuts here seem to fan of Bob Dozier, Kit Carson and Mike Obenauf when I go through the previous thread.

Andre - is it possible for you to give some review on the MicroTech LCC D/A or just the LCC - say how the lock up etc. I already have the BM940 and the BM555 ( love the Axis lock) I am also thinking of getting the BM outbounder - only problem is I heard that the sheath is lousy. ( wonder why BM dont just do a good work on it the fist time to same the hassle of returning them, I know they have excellent Customer services as its been mention in this forum) but it could same them the time and money to do it right the first time and a lot of happy customer.

Paintedhorse - Where can I look as some of the pic.

For around $400 I can think of a few custom folder makers that come in at or near that amount:

Neil Blackwood (very long wait, not currently taking orders)
Jason Jacks (Raptor folder is quite nice)
JW Smith (integral lock Ti folder for under $400)
Alan Elishewitz (bolsterless basic models are $450)

Just check the custom knife internet site, you WILL find some very nice folders for under or just at $400.

You didn't say what you wanted to do with this knife, or give a context of what you already have. Both of these issues would influence my decision.

On the production side, the Microtech LCC is very nice. I had a manual action LCC (since sold) and just bought a LCC double/action from a forumite. - Should prove to be a very nice toy. For an even nicer toy, you can pick up a Microtech Halo III (out the front auto) between $300 and $350.

That is plenty of money to get a very nice tool/toy, production or custom.

Architect - actually I was asking the knifenuts what knife you would buy - not me. But this seems to end up like I am the one buying the knife which make me tempted to buy one but - if you could choose only one for the next one year which would u choose?

You asked about the lockup on the MT LCC. In a word, phenomenal. Outside of a Sebenza, a Strider folder, or a select few custom framelocks, one of the strongest, tightest lockups ive seen and that includes most customs. It has a very thick liner and it locks up PERFECTLY, exactly as a liner lock should, truly perfect engagement. Considering you can get the S30V DA model for about $250, its the bargain of the century. Built like a tank, great fit and finish, first class materials, DA auto, you cant beat it for the price. It worth twice what it sells for IMO.

A Sebenza if I would spend $250. Only done that once, a Randall #14 on time pay. I took about 8 months in 1995 - they really did that back then. Loved the knife so much I won't use it. Just bought a Camp Tramp for real use - hiking, hunting, field use reserve weekends.

Megalobyte - how abt comparing a Microtech LCC Da to Kit Carson folder model 4 of Greglight LCC

well for me it would be another Blackwood....looking at the Med Hunter with Snakewood , Mosaic PIns and Filework on the spine.

This is the only knife I plan on purchasing in 2003.

Unless of course I come into a bunch of $$$$$ then I would add a Snody Resistor Fixed Blade.

I am happy with my Large Seb , it will be my folder for a long time!

For $400, you could get a pretty nice forged carbon steel bowie from Kevin Cashen or a number of other bladesmiths. Not damascus or a lot of fancy fittings or filework, but still a nice carbon steel bowie.

I'd buy any available Snody folder. I don't care which model, I'd buy it regardless.

Next in line, maybe a basic Blackwood Curr.
